Sunday Wrap-up: GO GO Detroit running game!
Adrian Peterson hurt. St. Louis Rams finally win a game. These are a few of the headlines that caught my eye when I returned yesterday from a weekend trip to Culebra, a small island off the coast of Puerto Rico (with one of the best beaches in the world!) The Vikings got shut out by the Packers (which was awesome because I started Ryan Longwell in a few of my leagues) and I wondered why the team would only rush Adrian Peterson 11 times? I then realized that he got hurt!!! If the injury turns out to be serious and he is sidelined for a few games, the Vikings could be in some serious trouble. You could also say adios to any chance of Peterson breaking the single season rushing record. The Rams were finally able to pull one out against a Saints team that seemed to be on the rebound, but who knows where they'll go from here. The one stat that I found the most amusing of the afternoon though, was the rushing section of the Detriot box score, which read like this:
A. Cason: 1 rush, 1 yard (rushing leader on the team!)
T. J. Duckett: 1 rush, 0 yards
J. Kitna: 1 rush, 0 yards
K. Jones: 4 rush, -4 yards, 1 TD
S. McDonald: 1 rush, -15 yards
Total: 8 rushes, -18 yards, 1 TD
Of course, they set an NFL record for the least rushing yards in a game in the process, so they have something to be proud about.
With the Patriots on a bye this week, it left the window open for other players to prove that they are pretty good as well, so here's how the top players at each position ended up in Week 10...
Donovan McNabb (QB-PHI): 251 yards passing, 4 TDs, 37 yards rushing
Ben Roethlisberger (QB-PIT): 278 yards passing, 1 INT, 49 yards rushing, 3 TD (2 pass, 1 rush)
Brett Favre (QB-GB): 351 yards passing, 3 TD
Tony Romo (QB-DAL): 247 yards passing, 4 TD, 1 INT
It turned out to be a pretty quiet day for receivers across the league...
Terrell Owens (WR-DAL): 6 receptions, 125 receiving yards, 2 TD
Reggie Wayne (WR-IND): 10 receptions, 140 receiving yards, 1 TD
Jeremy Shockey (TE-NYG): 12 receptions, 129 receiving yards, 1 TD
Leonard Pope (TE-ARI): 5 receptions, 52 receiving yards, 2 TD
And it wasn't all that much better for the running backs, except...
Brian Westbrook (RB-PHI): 100 rushing yards, 5 receptions, 83 receiving yards, 3 TD combined (1 rush, 2 receive)
Steven Jackson (RB-STL): 2 passing yards, 76 rushing yards, 5 receptions, 24 receiving yards, 2 TD combined (1 pass, 1 rush)
The Rams needed everything they could get to break their eight game losing streak...even a Steven Jackson passing touchdown!
Ryan Grant (RB-GB): 119 rushing yards, 1 TD, 5 receptions, 20 receiving yards
Selvin Young (RB-DEN): 109 rushing yards, 1 TD, 3 receptions, 20 receiving yards
I figured I'd throw some young guys up here just to give them props on decent games.
And of course, another week...another kicker gone wild...
Shayne Graham (K-CIN): 7 of 7 on field goals (21 fantasy points)
And Denver learned to play some defense...
Denver (DEF): 9 points allowed, 4 sacks, 3 INT, 1 fumble recoverd, 1 defensive TD (22 fantasy points)
Finally, I'd like to point out a few things about the Colts loss to the Chargers. The Colts are now on a losing streak for the first time in years. With their injuries, they definitely do not look like a contender, so they better hope they get a lot healthier come playoff time. Maybe it's crazy to say at this point, but it's interesting to see how Peyton Manning performed when some of his top receiving threats were missing. I wonder how he would fare with a receiving core that read something like this: Reche Caldwell, Troy Brown, Jabar Gaffney, and Chad Jackson? Just a thought to ponder. However, because these bad games don't come often, let me just wrap-up with Peyton's stat line:
Peyton Manning (QB-IND): 328 passing yards, 2 TD, 6 INT (that's right, SIX interceptions!)

you forgot to cite the non-existant article 'despite their mascot being a revival of the village people, the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to put together wins.'
