LaDainian Who?

For a weekend that was supposed to be completely dedicated to the Patriots vs Colts showdown, a certain running back did his best to steal the spotlight. As many websites are stating, Adrian Peterson was on a "Viking Quest" to break the single game rushing record...and he succeeded.

Adrian Peterson (RB-MIN): 296 rushing yards, 3 TD

Peterson broke the previous record of 295 yards, which was held by Jamal Lewis. Let's also note that Adrian Peterson becomes the first rookie to rush for over 200 yards twice, as well as the first player to rush for over 1000 yards in his first 8 games. Peterson completely stole the show, making the opposing team's running back, MVP LaDainian Tomlinson, nothing more than a footnote in the game summary. Apparently, Lewis took offense to this accomplishment and was determined to put up some head scratching stats of his own:

Jamal Lewis (RB-CLE): 20 attempts, 37 rushing yards, 4 TD, 4 receptions, 67 receiving yards

While averaging less than 2.0 yards a carry, Lewis managed to score a touchdown once every five times he carried the ball.

These weren't the running backs to put up some amazing fantasy stats this weekend however...

Joseph Addai (RB-IND): 112 rushing yards, 5 receptions, 115 receiving yards, 1 TD
Too bad it just wasn't enough...

Marshawn Lynch (RB-BUF): 153 rushing yards, 1 reception, 7 receiving yards, 8 passing yards, 2 TDs (1 rushing, 1 passing)
Poor LT, now he's not even the only running back throwin touchdowns

Clinton Portis (RB-WAS): 196 rushing yards, 1 TD
With talk of the Patriots and Adrian Peterson, did you even hear about this near 200 yard performance?

Brian Westbrook (RB-PHI): 65 rushing yards, 1 TD, 14 receptions, 90 receiving yards
Just another day in the life of this dynamic player

Reggie Bush (RB-NO): 72 rushing yards, 7 receptions, 43 receiving yards, 2 TD (1 rushing, 1 receiving)
Looks like Reggie's future is to become the next Westbrook

While running backs probably made the biggest impact of the week, there were also some great performances by players at the other skill positions...

Drew Brees (QB-NO): 445 passing yards, 3 TD
HUGE game from Brees. Are the Saints back to last season form?

Tony Romo (QB-DAL): 324 passing yards, 3 TD, 1 INT
Earning his new $60 million contract.

Terrell Owens (WR-DAL): 10 receptions, 174 receiving yards, 1 TD
Wow, Eagles fans must have loved this one.

Lee Evans (WR-BUF): 9 receptions, 165 receiving yards, 1 TD
Evans is finally reminding managers why they drafted him in the early rounds.

Bobby Engram (WR-SEA): 14 receptions, 139 receiving yards, 1 TD
Can he keep it up when Branch returns?

Randy Moss (WR-NE): 9 receptions, 145 receiving yards, 1 TD
Another team, another monster game.

Reggie Williams (WR-JAX): 6 receptions, 128 receiving yards, 1 TD
Umm...Reggie Williams? I had to put him up here.

Marques Colston (WR-NO): 10 receptions, 159 receiving yards
With the return of Brees, comes the return of his favorite target.

Tony Gonzalez (TE-KC): 10 receptions, 109 receiving yards, 1 TD
Keeps on piling up yards and TDs

Kellen Winslow (TE-CLE): 11 receptions, 125 receiving yards
Another solid game from this top 5 tight end.

And of course, even a kicker and a defense had to get props this week...

Shaun Suisham (K-WAS): 5 field goals (including four of at least 40 yards)
Tied the Washington Redskins single game kicking record with 5 field goals.

Detroit (DEF): 7 points allowed, 5 sacks, 1 INT, 3 fumbles recovered, 2 TD
What is going on in Denver? Cutler gets hurt and the team gets completely annihilated by the Lions?! Things are not looking good.

P.S. The Patriots won!!! 16-0 here we come!
