Fantasy football thoughts from Puerto Rico

So these past few days have been a bit of an adventure for me, as I was traveling down to Puerto Rico for work and due to some hurricane-induced delays, mixed with the reliability of the Puerto Rican internet, I have not been able to write some much needed analysis of what is shaping up to be a crazy opening weekend in the NFL. Let me just start by saying that while Matt felt it unnecessary to mention Tom Brady's season ending injury (and it wasn't even to that stupid foot we kept hearing about!), I have to admit that I am shedding a few tears internally as my favorite team's Superbowl hopes are now resting squarely on the shoulders of a guy I thought the team was going to cut before the season started...Mr. Matt Cassel. Luckily for my alternate, fantasy football reality, I only had Brady in one league this year and it was my lame EA Sports league that I really don't care much about, but let's get to the rest of the action that transpired this weekend...

Rising and Falling: The Barbarian unleashed!

Week three of the preseason has recently become the week where coaches get a longer look at the players they expect to form their starting roster come opening day. With this in mind, it's important to look at the players who are stepping it up this week, as it could be a key indicator of how they will play when the season starts. Below you'll find a list of the players who's fantasy status is "Rising", "Falling", or "Stayin' Put" based on Saturday's preseason action...

Kevin Curtis out for a while with a sports hernia

As if Donovan McNabb didn't have enough trouble finding a reliable wide receiver to throw to, today it was announced that Kevin Curtis will be out for an extended amount of time getting surgery for a sports hernia. There is no absolute time table on how long it will take Curtis to return, but my non-PHD guess would be that it will take a couple months for him to be back to top form. Obviously this hurts Curtis' draft rank, but it also has a negative affect on McNabb's, as well as a positive affect on the rookie, DeSean Jackson. The other starter in the offense, Reggie Brown, is already out with a hamstring injury for a short while (possibly back to start the season), so Jackson immediately jumps up to the #1 receiver in the offense for the remaining preseason games. Check back in a bit to see where this news affects our power rankings...

More notes from the preseason

As the Olympics started with bang last night (and as I write this, we already lead in the medal count!), the NFL preseason kept rolling with a few more games. Here are a few of the notable stats from those exhibitions:

Sunday Wrap-up: Patriots, Moss and Brady inch closer to the records

With their victory over the Dolphins yesterday, the Patriots are now one win from reaching that undefeated mark. One game!!! Tom Brady is two touchdowns from breaking Peyton Manning's single season record of 49, while Randy Moss is two scores from breaking Jerry Rice's single season record of 22 grabs. If all of these records are broken in that last game, that will be pretty badass, I must say.
