You’ll also see the percent owned in parenthesis. This week we start off with a few quarterbacks who’s play has improved dramatically over the next few weeks. Early in the season, did you ever imagine starting Alex Smith or Vince Young (or Bruce Gradkowski?) in the playoffs? Me neither.

With Halloween right around the corner, hopefully your fantasy teams are in for more treats than tricks! While there is no game on Sunday night due to the World Series, I’m excited for the treat we’ll all get on Monday night when we actually get to see a good football game (Falcons @ Saints), instead of what we were forced to witness last week. The Wire - Week 5: Maybe the Steelers do have a running game!

As a firm believer in the Continuous Quality Improvement model, I’ve once again updated the look and feel of The Wire for your enjoyment. The list is now organized by position, which seems to make more sense since you are undoubtedly looking to fill a certain spot on your roster with these waiver wire pick-ups. However, it’s still organized in order of the ownership percentage (in parenthesis) so you know the odds of the player being available in your league. Also, the classifications have changed slightly (I just didn’t like the old ones for some reason.) Quick Hits (and Misses): Colts @ Jaguars

In case you weren’t aware, not only do we have a Thursday game this week, but we also have a Saturday game now that college football is coming to an end. I’ll get to my official HIts and Misses post at some point over the next day or so, but I wanted to get started with the game tonight, which features a few players that could hurt/help your chances at winning that Championship (or third place game) this week (or next week) as the Indianapolis Colts head to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars, so here we go…
Hits
- Peyton Manning, QB, Colts: To date, the Jaguars have given up 22 passing touchdowns, which ties them as the fourth worst team in the NFL in that area. Peyton Manning, on the other hand, is tied for 6th in the league with 23 passing touchdowns. Sounds like a pretty good match-up to me! With the game in Jacksonville, you won’t have to worry about bad weather screwing anything up (unlike what Kurt Warner and Matt Cassel owners should be worrying about this Sunday.)
- Reggie Wayne, WR, Colts: With his quarterback a near lock to throw a couple of touchdowns tonight, expect Wayne to catch one of them to go along with around 80-100 yards or so. (More …)

Hits and Misses - Week 10: "Purple Jesus" ready to roll at home

It’s pretty amazing the luck (of the bad variety) that I’ve had so far this season with my feature “hit” picks, the latest victim being my own personal favorite, the man who shares my name and plays receiver for the Denver Broncos, Mr. Brandon Marshall (two catches for 27 yards?!!) However, I did end up the week with a decent 13-7-5* record on the big days of quarterbacks Donovan McNabb and Kurt Warner, plus the misfortunes of Bills running back Marshawn Lynch and a few others (even if Marshall, Clinton Portis’ big day receiving, and Kyle Orton’s injury all tried to screw me!)
Maybe picking the most obvious guy each week that is “supposed” to have a huge game is the wrong approach. If I pick LaDainian Tomlinson to have a big day against the high school players the Chiefs call a defense, is he going to get shut out? This week I’m going to change my approach a bit and go with my gut as to which player will have a big day and not base my pick solely on the numbers. While I’m not going out on a huge limb here, my big play of the week is for Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, aka Purple Jesus, to run wild on the Green Bay Packers…
Hits
- Adrian Peterson, RB, Vikings: While quarterback Gus Frerotte tries his best against the vaunted Packers pass defense (see the “Others” section of my misses list below), this will be a game where the Vikings try to run the ball down Green Bay’s throat with Peterson and Chester Taylor. The Pack is allowing nearly five yards per carry to opposing tailbacks and almost 150 yards a game, but you can expect Minnesota to land on the plus side of that average. The first time these two teams met this season (at Green Bay), Peterson, who is averaging around 120 yards per game at home this season, broke the century mark and also scored a touchdown as the team rushed for over 180 yards…and I’m predicting at least those results this time. Sell High, Buy Low: Trade ideas for Week 9, 2008

If your team needs some help and you’re looking to make a trade to bolster a position, here’s a list of players to look for and work into those deals this week. Players listed under Sell High are overvalued – meaning that I think they’re performing at a level they won’t be able to maintain throughout the season, and thus are ripe to be traded away while their value is still high. Those listed under Buy Low are the ones to look for on other peoples’ teams – hopefully their owners are discouraged by their poor performance thus far, and will trade them away for a song.Sell High
Bernard Berrian, WR, MIN – He’s had three straight games with 80+ yards and a score – against three of the worst teams in the league at stopping the pass (New Orleans allows the 6th-most passing yards per game, Detroit the 2nd-most, and Chicago the 4th-most). Frerotte-to-Berrian isn’t exactly an unstoppable force, and the minute opposing defenses decide to pay closer attention to Berrian (probably starting about now), this connection’s going to fizzle.
David Garrard, QB, JAC – Poor David Garrard. Just when he finally develops some chemistry with a receiver (Matt Jones), it looks like he’ll probably lose him to suspension fairly soon. While Jones is gone for three weeks (whether it starts this week or next), expect Garrard to revert to his early-season form, when he was averaging well under 200 yards and rarely threw for a score. Ask the Geeks - Week 5

Here are our responses to the first couple of questions for the week. Remember, you can always ask us questions by clicking the Ask the Geeks logo on the left sidebar (or this link).Jeff asks: I am in a league where QB TDs count as 6 points. My current QBs are Garrard, Bulger and Griese. I have been offered Aaron Rodgers and Jacksonville DEF for my Tennessee DEF. Should I make the trade?
Brandon’s take: Jeff, I’m not all that high on your quarterbacks right now and having Rodgers in there (assuming he’s healthy) would be a pretty decent upgrade. However, I just took a look at my league and the difference in fantasy points between the Titans and Jags is pretty staggering. Tennessee leads the NFL with 66 fantasy points through four weeks, while Jacksonville only has 23…a difference of 43 points (over 10 a week!) Looking at the schedules of both “players” (Rodgers/Titans), the Titans seem to have the easier road ahead. I also think David Garrard will rebound from a rough first couple games (he did alright last week) and should hold down your quarterback position. In short, don’t make the trade. Keep the Titans and have faith in Garrard.
Matt’s take: What are you doing with Bulger still on your roster? I don’t think Rodgers is necessarily a huge upgrade from Garrard, especially since Garrard’s numbers will only improve as his o-line slowly returns to health. (More …)
