  Tonight's Game: New York Jets @ Toronto Bills

  Don’t even get me started on the Toronto thing. NFL.com’s Nick Bakay sums up the situation pretty succinctly:

  If you have any illusions that this counts as a home game, peep the Jets tilt this Thursday on NFL Network, and count the Bills jerseys in the stands. Last year against Miami, it took CBS three quarters to find one, but there were thousands of Dolphins threads.

  So just in case your start/sit decision on a Buffalo player hinges on the fact that this is a “home” game – think again.

  Fantasy storylines to watch this weekend

  Plenty of fantasy intrigue around the league in week 10. Here are a few situations I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on.

  Joe Flacco @ Cleveland: Wacko Flacco (sorry) has been shaky lately, so it’ll be interesting to see him take on a team that he played well against earlier in the season (342 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, 111.8 passer rating in week 3). If Flacco can repeat or improve upon that performance, he’ll reestablish himself as a startable fantasy QB when the matchup’s right.

  LeSean McCoy/Brian Westbrook vs. San Diego: How shaky is Westbrook’s ankle? Will McCoy continue to make a convincing case for more touches? Andy Reid just watched the division lead get ripped away from him by the surging Cowboys, so it’ll be interesting to see which running back he favors when push comes to shove.

  Drool-worthy matchups for the stretch run

  With nine weeks of data in the books on this year’s NFL team defenses, it’s now pretty clear which matchups you should absolutely love to see on your players’ schedules for the remainder of the season.

  Passing Defense

  Worst of the Worst:

  Detroit Lions: They allow a whopping 263 passing yards per game, including games where they gave up 358 to Brees, 340 to Campbell, 358 to Rodgers, and 329 to Hasselbeck. And only the Titans (who I’ll get to in a minute) have allowed more passing TDs.

  Kansas City Chiefs: Only ten sacks on the season, second-worst in the league, and only three interceptions, which is obviously the worst. (Interesting aside – the Redskins, who give up the fewest yards per game, are tied with the Browns for the second-fewest INTs – just four.)

  Can’t say I expected the Saints-Bills game to turn into a defensive battle with zero passing touchdowns on either side. Neither did Vegas – the over/under was 52.5. Drew Brees hasn’t looked like himself at all.

  Maybe it’s the weather. It’s nasty up here in Western NY right now.

  Congratulations to the Patriots, who win the game and graciously allow Buffalo to continue their long-lasting tradition of heartbreak! T.O. already wants out of that town. That’s what I’m talking about…bring on the Jets and Mark Sanchez!

  Some quick notes from the past day or so…

  • Looks like Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall may have had a good conversation with his agent or something, because he’s wisely returned to practice with the team’s offense (he previously was running with the scout team, mimicking opposing team’s star receivers.) The team has moved him back to the number one spot on the depth chart as well and as long as he can get some reps during one of these final preseason games, it’s probably safe to move him back up a few notches on your cheat sheet.
  • Given the fact that Browns’ running back Jamal Lewis isn’t getting any younger and rookie James Davis has been outstanding this preseason, we could see more of a committee situation in Cleveland than at first expected.
  • If you were hand-cuffing Bills running back Fred Jackson to Marshawn Lynch (out with a suspension for first three games), unfortunately he’s suffering from finger/wrist pain and there is now some question as to how much he’ll be able to play in the first game of the season. If he can’t play, Dominic Rhodes would get the bulk of the carries for the team. Just in case this situation wasn’t messy enough…

  This T.O. “bum toe” talk is finally starting to scare me enough to drop him down on my wide receiver list (along with Trent Edwards on his list.) The fact that he’s 35 years old (I was just reminded of this fact) isn’t boosting my confidence…plus his reality show is awful.

  Is Buffalo considering Michael Vick as a backup quarterback? I don’t think they’re all that confident in Trent Edwards as their starter to begin with, and backup Ryan Fitzpatrick isn’t all that inspiring either. If the Bills were looking for some national media attention, what better way than to unite T.O. AND Vick?

  Which teams don't want Terrell Owens - and which teams might

  It’s the web page Drew Rosenhaus hopes you never see – ProFootballTalk.com is maintaining a running list of teams that have (wisely) stated they have no interest in signing Terrell Owens. I’m not going to copy and paste it here since it seems kind of douche-ish to copy the entirety of someone else’s work instead of linking to it. I was somewhat surprised that the list includes the Raiders, who were the first team that came to everyone’s mind when they wondered, “Who would drop a boatload of cash on a notorious locker room cancer who has gotten along with precisely nobody in his career and has at most two more productive seasons left in him?” It’s also interesting to see the that none of the three of the other teams in the NFC East are interested, which means T.O. won’t get the chance to avenge his ouster wearing the uniform of a division rival.

  Of course, just because a team isn’t on this list doesn’t mean they’re thinking about acquiring him. Some teams might even consider the prospect of hiring T.O. so preposterous that they don’t even think it’s worth stating the obvious. Of the remaining NFL teams that might be interested, which ones might actually give him a chance? (More …)

  Desperation is a Stinky Cologne: Week 3

  Have injuries or piss-poor performance left you decimated and desperate at a position? Don’t feel bad, it happens to the best of us (thanks to injuries to the WR1 and WR3 I drafted, my starting wideouts in my keeper league last week were Dwayne Bowe, Robert Meachem, and Ted Ginn, Jr… *shudder*).

  The following players aren’t going to save your team if it’s in rough shape across the board, but they’re likely available as free agents and not terrible plug-ins for this week if you’re desperate. Note that this column differs from a standard “waiver wire” post in that I’m not advising you to pick these players up if you’re looking long-term production. Thanks to matchups, injuries, or other favorable conditions, these normally ignorable guys might just be useful this week if you really need them. (More …)
