I originally wrote this post for my own personal blog, but I figured that I might as well share it with all of our devoted readers as well, just in case they were also fans of non-sports related television. Just to let you know, I’m an easily amused guy, so it doesn’t take much to get a good review from me, so here you go…
While down in Puerto Rico, I’ve found myself to be watching a lot of television. Most of the time it’s ESPN if SportsCenter is on, or one of the network stations if it’s Sunday and football is on. However, during the week days I’ve been watching lots of the new shows that are airing this season, so I figured I’d give my brief reaction to each of the new shows that I have seen so far:
The Big Bang Theory (CBS, Monday 8:30 PM):

After 1 episode…This show takes the work place humor and spins it a little differently, just taking the smart, eccentric people and putting them in their home environment. If you’re into nerdy humor, you should enjoy this show. Also, to make the show appealing to a broader audience, they cast the neighbor as a less-than-genius, hot, blonde who makes for some pretty good laughs and visuals.
Kid Nation (CBS, Wednesday 8:00 PM):

After 2 episodes…Once I saw the advertisement for the first episode, I HAD to watch this show. While it’s not supposed to be a comedy (it’s a reality show), how can putting 40 kids from age 8 to 14 in their own "town" not ensure some hilarity. Obviously the bigger 14 year olds are thinking their all big and tough and taking advantage of the little kids, while some of the more stuck up kids are not working as hard so that the other little kids have to do all the work. The crazy part is that each week, a kid council votes on the best "town member" each week and that kid (really their parents) are given $20,000. It’s always funny giving a kid, who has no concept of money, lots of money and seeing how they react. You should watch this show for sure, or at least give it one episode to see what it’s all about.
Chuck (NBC, Monday 8:00 PM):

After 2 episodes…A cross between The Office and Mission Impossible, this show is pretty entertaining. The main character, Chuck, is Jim Halpert from The Office, mixed with equal parts Dane Cook and Ryan Reynolds (Van Wilder). The concept of the show, and a lot of the subplots so far, are a bit unbelievable (all of NSA’s secrets downloaded into Chuck’s brain, disarming a bomb with a computer virus, etc), but once you get over yourself and stop thinking that you’re smarter than the show, it makes for a pretty good watch. The main CIA agent girl is smokin’ hot as well.
Cavemen (ABC, Tuesday 8:00 PM):
-1/2
After 1 episode…Honestly, when I heard that they were making a TV show based on all those Geico commercials with the Caveman characters, I assumed that it would be bad. The first episode actually wasn’t that bad though, and for a 30 minute show, I think they made the most of it. The characters are a little creepy, but I think that’s part of th intrigue. I’ll keep watching this show for a few weeks to see how I like it.
Bionic Woman (NBC, Wednesday 9:00 PM):
-1/2
After 1 episode…The first episode was pretty cool, as it had good looking women beating people up. They’ll have to delve into the background story a little more tonight though, as it is still pretty vague after the first show.
Life (NBC, Wednesday 10:00 PM):
-1/2
After 2 episodes…It’s probably similar to the rest of the crime investigation shows, but I don’t watch them. The twist to this show is that the main character was falsely imprisoned for years and now that he’s out, he’s trying to solve his own case that got him put in prison to begin with, as well as solving lots of other crimes. The guys is pretty interesting and the show is fairly entertaining, plus it’s right after Bionic Woman so I’m too lazy to chance the station.
Carpoolers (ABC, Tuesday 8:30 PM):
After 1 episode…I don’t see this show making it a full season. A very low budge comedy based on a group of guys who carpool to work each day. It’s obviously a rip-off of other work place humor such as The Office and the movie Office Space, yet the jokes are pretty lame and far between, plus the main characters didn’t seem all that interesting either.
Reaper (CW, Tuesday 9:00 PM): 1/2 geek
After 10 minutes of 1 episode…While talking with my friend Ezal, he mentioned that he had to go to watch a new show that he liked called Reaper. I turned it on and within 10 minutes switched the channel. I’m not even sure what the concept was, but it was not funny and seemed stupid to me.
I’ve also resorted to downloading episodes of older shows off iTunes to see what they’re all about, so here’s a quick reaction to those as well:
How I Met Your Mother (CBS, Monday 8:00 PM):
-1/2
After 1 episode…I’ve seen ads for this show for a while now and never took the time to watch it for some reason, although I generally think Neil Patrick Harris has been funny in his post-Doogie career. I downloaded the first episode of Season 1 off iTunes to give it a try and it ended up being pretty funny. From the ads it seems as if the latest episodes are even funnier, so I’ll give this show the benefit of the doubt and possibly download a few more, but we’ll see.
The Sarah Silverman Program (Comedy Central, Wednesday 10:30 PM):
-1/2
After 1 episode…The ad for the latest episode of this show looked pretty funny, so I figured I’d give it a shot, watching the first episode of season 1. Although it had its funny parts, the humor was a little too immature I think (however, that is exactly what she’s going for with the show), but maybe in the future when I find the episodes for free online or rent the season on DVD I’ll watch more of this show.
(Note: Ratings are out of 4 "geeks"

I’ve got two words for you about How I Met Your Mother: Slap Bet. Season 2, Episode 9. If that doesn’t convince you to watch, then the show’s not for you.
(I’d also really recommend Countdown (2×20) and Lucky Penny (2×15). I know I’m recommending all Season 2 episodes, but if you’ve got a limited sample time for the show I’d say just jump to the really good stuff to get you hooked. The first season still holds up.)
