Here’s the last batch of Ask the Geeks for week eleven. If you have any last minute questions, feel free to leave them as a comment on one of our posts and hopefully Matt or I (or any of our readers) can get back to you with some advice before game time. Either way, good luck and hopefully everyone can start clinching some playoff spots!

    Heath asks…

who should start week 11 at the flex RB/WR position.

    1. A. Bradshaw
    2. A. Boldin
    3. Justin Forsett

Anquan Boldin or Beanie Wells as a flex (non-PPR)

    • Jess 10:32 am on 11/22/2009 Permalink Reply

Jones, Thomas, Grant, Gore @ RB, pick 2..
      WR- Ward, White,Housh or Cotchery..pick 3

      • Matt 11:40 am on 11/22/2009 Permalink Reply

I think you have to start Thomas Jones every week. Same goes for Frank Gore when he’s healthy (which he is).

Ward’s going to eat the Chiefs alive and do it with a goofy grin (because he does everything with a goofy grin). I like Housh in the other spot – the Seahawks are doing everything in their power to get him the ball, and that’ll be doubly true against the Vikings, who tend to force opposing offenses to pass more than usual.

    • John 10:33 am on 11/22/2009 Permalink Reply

Robert Meachem or Mike Sims Walker. I hate how people say that Jaguars are going to run all day, which I do believe, but they do have to throw sometimes.

      • Matt 11:28 am on 11/22/2009 Permalink Reply

Sims-Walker, no question. Meachem just doesn’t get enough looks to warrant starting him over a player of MSW’s caliber.

      Need some help: (non PPR)

Need 2 more RB’s have C.Johnson starting already:

Brandon Jacobs, Beanie Wells, Bernard Scott, Cedric Benson…Thanks

      • Matt 11:32 am on 11/22/2009 Permalink Reply

I like Jacobs a lot this week – Atlanta can’t stop the run. Go with Beanie in the other spot – he’s looking pretty explosive lately, and Hightower, um, hasn’t.

    • Glory Hog 11:40 am on 11/22/2009 Permalink Reply

non-ppr league and we don’t have to start a tight-end, we can use them at WR.
For my WR-2, should I start Greg Jennings or Brent Celek?

      • Matt 11:43 am on 11/22/2009 Permalink Reply

Celek just keeps scoring touchdowns – he’s found paydirt three weeks in a row. No reason why he can’t make it four against the Bears.

      • Brandon 11:44 am on 11/22/2009 Permalink Reply

I agree with Matt…hard to sit a guy who finds the endzone every week.

Pierre Thomas or Beanie Wells at RB2? Have Ray Rice at RB1.

We’re 9-1, 2nd highest scoring team in the league playing 7-3, highest scoring team. Lots of bragging rights here!!

Man I’m lucky. I had a bad feeling about Betts at about 12:45 and heard Norwdoo was out so I plugged Snelling instead at about 12:55.

But hey, the Browns are about to put up 21 points in the first quarter. If there is any reason to football, surely it has disappeared this week!

Throughout most of his NFL career, I wouldn’t have cared a whole lot whether Reggie Bush played or not. However, now that I actually have him on my best fantasy football squad AND because he’s actually putting up decent numbers these days, I’m very nervous about the thought of him not occupying the W/R spot on my roster this weekend. It’s looking more and more like it’s heading that way too, with Reggie nursing a knee bruise. Not helping the situation is the fact that the Saints are undefeated and have no need to risk injuring one of their most dynamic players any further. Keep an eye on this situation until he’s ruled out for sure, but with such an enticing match-up against Tampa Bay, I won’t be happy if he takes the week off.

Does that mean Bell becomes a decent option, or do you think PT still sees the majority of carries? (have Bell on my Bench)

      • Brandon 9:58 am on 11/22/2009 Permalink Reply

I still think the PT Cruiser sees the bulk of the carries. Mike Bell and Reggie Bush are very different in their skill sets and the fact that Bush is out just means other receivers will see the ball more often…not necessarily that Mike Bell will. It all depends on your other options though.

    • benjamin 7:37 pm on 11/21/2009 Permalink Reply

As a pt owner, I won’t be happy if he takes off… I’ll be ecstatic!

Tight ends, I think I’m going with Celek over Shockey this week, Good Idea? I have to pick up another RB, Options are Shonn Greene, Donald Brown or a couple others, but I don’t know who, most of them 2nd backs to the starters, any suggestions? thanks Jason

      • Brandon 10:02 am on 11/22/2009 Permalink Reply

Stick with the hot hand and go with Celek. He’s got three touchdowns in three weeks and has a good chance at a fourth this week. As for your running back options, I’m not high on Shonn Greene, who hasn’t done anything since his huge week seven game. Brown hasn’t done much of anything either with all his injuries and the fact that Addai still gets the bulk of the carries. None of the big pick-ups this week are available (Bernard Scott, Jason Snelling, Justin Forsett?)

Here’s to hoping that Mike Wallace holds down the flex spot for me in Reggie’s absence!

Not that it has any impact on fantasy football at this point, but it appears that the Buffalo’s recently-made-backup quarterback Trent Edwards could be on his way out of town soon. I just imagine him signing with a UFL team, then, along with J.P. Losman, causing the league to fold as everyone realizes that quarterbacks not good enough to play for the Bills are starting for half the league’s teams.

  • Update: How valuable is Ricky Williams from here on out?

A followup to yesterday’s post on Ricky, where I concluded:

What it all boils down to is this: tonight is huge for Ricky Williams owners. Carolina’s defense is fairly representative of the kind of mediocre opponent Ricky will get to face from here on out. If he goes out there and parties like it’s 1999 (when he was 22), I think we can all agree that he’ll belong in that top tier with the rest of the elite fantasy RBs for the rest of the ‘09 season. If Carolina shuts him down, we’ll know that Ricky can’t hack it on his own, and his owners had better hope the Dolphins can find a free agent capable of doing a halfway decent Ronnie Brown impression for the rest of the season.

22 carries for 119 yards (5.4 YPC), two rushing touchdowns, and two receptions for 19 yards and another touchdown all add up to a pretty convincing argument: Ricky’s an elite RB1 for the rest of 2009. Like I pointed out yesterday, the Dolphins are built to run the ball, and the schedule is very favorable, with zero matchups against tough run defenses until week 17 (PIT).

Maybe you’re a little biased because you have him in one of our leagues? Just sayin’.

    • Squish 12:02 pm on 11/20/2009 Permalink Reply

I bumped him up to top 10 after Ronnie Brown got put on the IR. He has more value than Ronnie Brown has ever had this year because he is the sole RB and it’s no longer a committee. With the 10th most favorable RB schedule of all RBs, and being on a run happy team, he has a chance to really put some points up. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him finish top 5 on the year.

Here are our “Hits” and “Misses” for week eleven, listing players you want to make sure are in your lineup, as well as those you might consider shelving for the week (or at least lowering your expectations!) This week I returned to my previous ways of leaving the most obvious players off the list (Drew Brees @ TB, Maurice Jones-Drew vs BUF,) so we’re left with players you may actually have to think about starting or benching this week. In most leagues the playoffs are rapidly approaching, so this could be a huge week for your team and hopefully some of our advice can help you clinch a spot! Anyways, here we go with the hits and misses…

      • Brandon 5:02 pm on 11/20/2009 Permalink Reply

Portis and Turner aren’t playing, so that narrows it down a bit. Go with Forte and Wells, who has a good match-up against the Rams.

I need three out of the following (atleast one WR): Devin Hester, Cadillac Williams, Laurence Maroney, Chester Taylor, Mike Sims Walker, Robert Meachem, Bernard Scott

      I lost Ronnie Brown :(

      • Shirley 6:48 am on 11/20/2009 Permalink Reply

Bernard Scott (if Benson doesn’t play), MSW and I suppose Meachem?

      • Squish 10:30 am on 11/20/2009 Permalink Reply

I agree about Scott. If Benson doesn’t start, Scott is a great play against a porous Oakland defense and MSW is definitely your WR as Shirley said. If you start Scott and MSW as your WR, I’m leaning towards Maroney as your flex. If Scott doesn’t start, replace him with Cadillac Williams who has a pretty solid matchup this week at NO. If Scott and Cadillac don’t start, play Maroney MSW and Hester.

As I keep telling everyone, when in doubt play the RBs. Maroney and Cadillac thought not the hottest fantasy commodities will still have a better chance of putting up 10+ points than most WRs. Normally I think about giving Hester the start over them but with Cutler playing the way he is, I’d avoid him since you have roughly equal/better options.

Well I just woke up and got an interesting e-mail from squish who has no knowledge of football. He actually told you to start betts against dallas who are 7th in the league against the rush this year and betts is banged up. I’d go with Meachem as he is one of the biggest sleepers this week against Tampa Bay who will go way over his projected ending up with 6 to 7 receptions for around 75 yards and possibly a touchdown. If you want real fantasy football advice than go to http://www.thefantasyfootballguru.com. Oh yeah, and squish I’ll go toe to toe with you about football any day of the week you wanabe football analyst.

        • craig 10:50 am on 11/20/2009 Permalink

sorry i responded in the wrong section but i’d stillgo with meachem over hester or maroney this week as hester is going up against philly even though culter has had two 300 plus passing games in a row. and cadillac is going up against NO who has a banged up secondary so tampa bay will be passing more than running.

        • craig 11:02 am on 11/20/2009 Permalink

still half asleep, but as for maroney he’s going up against the jets who are 9th against the run this year so expect NE to be passing the ball as usual even in red zone situations. the most points maroney will get you will be around 8 to 11 depending on league and scoring. Remember that’s the most points he’ll get you. so if you want real advice then go to my site at http://www.thefantasyfootballguru.com where there is a link to my e-mail and i’ll answer your questions to the most depth possible with actual reasoning and logic behind it than telling you to start scott against a weak Raiders D that anyone could figure out even my mom who doesn’t watch football would start scott this week. As even if Benson plays he’ll only see about 12 carries other than his usual 28 to 35.

LOL! I love your site Craig! Is there any content under all that crap on the front page? Oh… I guess not, just a bunch of links to NFL.com/Yahoo/ESPN. It looks like a pre-schooler designed your site! Nevermind, even preschoolers know better than to steal content from other people.

BTW, “your” projections (which happen to on the same page as ESPN’s) agree with the advice I gave. Those same projections recommend starting both Cadillac and Maroney over Meachem. Interesting how that works. I guess you must have changed your mind after you made “your” projections.

To be serious though if you are going to link to decent sites at least make sure they are reasonably accurate ones. ESPN is bottom 10% this year in accuracy. Just for everyone’s information, the current most accurate sites on the net in all categories are as follows:

Good riddens! When you come back in a few minutes to respond to this post, it would be better for you if you know that I don’t own this site nor am I one of “the geeks”. I’m simply an active reader willing to help the guys out and provide a different point of view from time to time (though usually we agree).

As for your “threats”, you should educate yourself. As a law student, I’ll try to enlighten you. Slander is the term used for a spoken mistruth/unproven truth that damages someone’s character. The word you were looking for is “libel” which is a written statement doing the same thing. Either way, those suits only work if the information presented is not true which isn’t the case here. Secondly, you would also not be able to file such a suit since no one has damaged you or your character (since you are anonymous on the forum and nobody used your name) and since the site is not responsible for comments made on the forum. As for your site, well it doesn’t come into play at all since you do not own it (you’re officially a renter at your provider) or any of the material on it. You could get ESPN to try and sue somebody for example but you don’t have the option.

As for the e-mails, well quite honestly I’m not sure what you are even talking about! Who are the e-mails from? You may get e-mails when a topic you posted on is replied to but you agreed to have that happen when you agreed to the terms and conditions of the site by signing up then posting. I think you can go into your user settings and change that.

Either way, have a great rest of the year! Don’t feel as if you are unwelcome here! This site exists to provide advice to anyone who needs it. You aren’t excluded!

        • craig 12:14 pm on 11/20/2009 Permalink

you got me there squish as i am not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to law, and yes i did over react about you just stating your opinion. everyone is entitled to their opinion even if the almighty guru lol doesn’t like it. I do have more knowledge of football then i think you’re giving me credit for but that is here nor ther. But, hopefully one day I could even gain you as re-occuring member of my web page but by the looks of it i don’t think that’s going to happen. So good luck with your fantasy football this season and hopefully no hard feelings.

        • Squish 12:35 pm on 11/20/2009 Permalink

Definitely no hard feelings! And for the record I didn’t say anything about your fantasy football knowledge. I’m sure you know plenty. Everyone’s bound to disagree on at least a few start/sits. Just don’t attack the geeks for something I say. I’m just a lowly reader :(

As for my mocking your site, I apologize. I may have overreacted a bit. You do have a legitimately complete collection of content even if it isn’t yours. Some of my favorite sites do the same thing (FFNerd, FFLibrarian). The issue was that stolen content has been a hot topic in the community for awhile now. There has been a rash of people literally stealing entire posts from sites like this and posting them to their own site. Granted those sites are getting shutdown left and right but it was wrong to group you with them. You don’t steal literal content. You at least are reasonable enough to link to it. Just understand that content theft is a big deal right now.

It’s all good though. Do you play any other types of FF besides standard? I’ve got and NFL.com TD challenge team, a yahoo pickem (against the spread) team and salary cap team, a couple USAToday contest teams, a bestbuy.com team, and even a FF for charity team. Let me know if you’d like to make/join a group with me in any of those games.

BTW, one of my NE sources seems to believe Randy Moss missed practice Wednesday because he had a family issue believed to be illness or death related ;)

    • Shirley 6:11 pm on 11/19/2009 Permalink Reply

Who do you think is likely to have a better fantasy game? Brett Favre (vs. SEA) or Kurt Warner (vs. STL)? I haven’t paid attention to whether Warner throws a lot when he plays an easy team. I know Favre has better games when he goes up against tough teams but not weak teams because MIN just lets AD run the ball.

      • Amir 6:38 pm on 11/19/2009 Permalink Reply

Warner should go off start him with confidence.

        • Squish 10:33 am on 11/20/2009 Permalink

I agree. Warner should go nuts this week. Even if it was close I’d still take Warner since Favre was limited in practice this week. I can assure you the Seahawk defense also heard the news and will likely go the immobile senior all day.

      • Brandon 5:04 pm on 11/20/2009 Permalink Reply

Go with Warner of course, he’s one of my “hits” this week! Favre should do alright too though, so either way you shouldn’t worry too much.

Kinda last second here but would you guys go with Deangelo Williams or Ricky Williams tonight? I currently have Ricky Williams in mostly because Dwil has been limited this week plus Ricky has a great matchup.

      • Brandon 7:57 pm on 11/19/2009 Permalink Reply

I think you have to go with Ricky Williams. At least you know he’s healthy and will get the bulk of the carries. DeAngelo will be sharing carries with Jonathan Stewart and if he shows any sign of the injury coming back, I’m sure they’ll be quick to bench him.

        • Squish 11:16 pm on 11/19/2009 Permalink

Thanks for the quick response! Looks like we made the right decision. With Williams scoring two TDs already, I should really move up in the NFL.com TD challenge. Doesn’t hurt for my Yahoo salary cap team which is super TD heavy ;)

Urgent Help! Non- PPR – Choose a RB from: Snelling, Moats, McFadden, or LJ – I know, I know. Lineup sucks, but I’m still in 1st Place.

      • Shirley 6:50 am on 11/20/2009 Permalink Reply

I’d say Snelling. Very probable that Turner won’t start and so Snelling has the best chance to start out of all the guys you listed.

        • Squish 10:11 am on 11/20/2009 Permalink

Yeah, Snelling for sure. Turner is definitely out (I don’t care what he says) and Norwood is doubtful so he’s literally the only RB left. Turner seems to think he can play but nobody has ever played (outside the postseason) the week after a high ankle sprain which is what he has. If he decides to try, he’ll just end up limping off the field after a few carries. Either way, neither Norwood or Turner have practiced this week and that usually means they’ll be inactive. Start Snelling with confidence.

      • Brandon 5:05 pm on 11/20/2009 Permalink Reply

I agree with Shirley and Squish…Snelling is your man!

change of plans – made a trade for Marion the (non)Barbarian – how do we feel now? snelling or marion anfd the RB by Committee (not to mention- unpredictable Jason Garrett)?

        • Squish 6:14 pm on 11/21/2009 Permalink

I still think you have to go with Snelling this week. However, if either Turner or Norwood end up playing this week, feel fre to go with Barber. As far as I’m concerned Snelling is only a good play if he starts. If he doesn’t start I like the Barber instead.

I’d go with Betts, Addai and MSW. Addai may seem to have a bad matchup but Baltimore hasn’t stopped anyone good on the ground for awhile plus he’s great out the backfield and brown is still hurting. MSW is a beast and should do great at Buffalo. The rest of your list is kind of a pick of who’s more consistent. Betts is your best bet there (say that 5 times fast). The WRs are just too inconsistent. Betts will get plenty of carries and be relied on and should be good for 10+ points in standard scoring.

This is the only time I do agree with squish as if you read one of my earlier posts I don’t usually. but besides the subject you guys who run this site have no heart as your hits and misses are so obvious. grow some balls and tell us the answer to some hard questions. Oh ricky williams was really hard to pick as all of their other backs are injured. By the way Gore, Moss, and Addai will have good games making you guys look like idiots come monday.

If they’re so obvious, why will those guys have a good day and make us look like idiots? Plus, I think we do plenty of “hard question” answering in our Ask the Geeks segments, not to mention all of the comments on our posts. Thanks for the input though!

Although I’m not high on Addai this week, I like him more than Betts. As for the other two, Maclin and Wallace are good high risk/high reward players with solid match-ups, but I’m not sure I can recommend you play both as that may set you up for a low scoring week if both don’t live up to their billing. Go with Jeremy Maclin (especially if your league awards for kick returns) and Mike Sims-Walker and hope he can have a decent game against a tough Bills pass defense.

We’ll see if Moss can beat Revis this week. Revis completely shut him down last time and still hasn’t let a WR he’s covered gain more than 50 yards in any game to date this year. He’s shutdown Moss, AJ, Colston, and other than a short TD catch, MSW.

I got a question for you craig since you are a self-proclaimed fantasy god. Any idea why Moss missed practice Wednesday?

I need some good advice as my opponent this week played Ricky Williams & has a nice head start. PPR league & I need to start 2 of 3:

      Thomas Jones vs. NE
      LeSean McCoy vs. CHI
      Jason Snelling vs. NYG

I’m think of benching Jones, in favor of Snelling. Jones doesn’t catch many passes, whereas Snelling is a gifted receiver. Furthermore, NE’s run defense is tougher than the G-Men. Lastly, I expect the Jets to fall behind early & resort to an aerial attack, thus limiting Jones’ touches.

Please let me know what you think! Thanks

      • Brandon 5:19 pm on 11/20/2009 Permalink Reply

T-Jones is playing too good these days to bench. Go with him and hope he picks up a few big runs early in the game (or a short touchdown or two.) For your other RB, go with McCoy, who has a much better match-up and is a bit more of a proven commodity than Snelling.

      I’m looking for a solid WR3:

      1) B. Marshall vs. SD
      2) S. Breaston @ STL
      3) D. Hester vs. PHI

I’m also deciding between these two for a good RB2:

      1) F. Gore @ GB
      2) K. Smith vs. CLE

      Also, between these two defenses:

      1) New Orleans @ TB
      2) Dallas vs. WAS

      • Squish 10:50 am on 11/21/2009 Permalink Reply

Brandon Marshall is a must start in most formats so go with him at WR. Breaston definitely could do very well but Marshall gets too many looks to bench. Hester is worth avoiding with the way Cutler is playing.

You have to go with Gore at RB. Smith may have a great matchup but Gore is a beast and should have a big day regardless of matchup during most weeks.

For the defenses, it’s really up to you but NO is probably the way to go. They force too many turnovers to bench. Dallas will likely allow less points. But the chance that NO’s defense scores a TD is way too high to bench them in my opinion.

        • Matt 5:02 pm on 11/21/2009 Permalink

          Thanks for the advice.

Should I still go with Marshall even if Orton is out?

        • Squish 6:16 pm on 11/21/2009 Permalink

It’s a tough call but I think you still have to play him. However, I don’t think it would be a mistake to error on the side of safety and just play Hester or Breaston instead if Orton is out. I think if you want to make a safe play that should be good for 9 or so points, you’d be best off playing Hester. But if Orton goes, definitely play Marshall.

carson palmer over romo at QB

Well your lineup as is looks good don’t change anything on the current lineup.

For your flex slots, you have to start Djax. I don’t know what you are complaining about! He had 8 receptions for 91 yards last week! He may not have gotten in the endzone in awhile but you have to know it’s coming with the number of targets he gets. Steve Smith other than a TD last week has actually done less over the past 4 games than DJax.

For your WR/RB flex, I think McCoy is your best play since Westbrook is out. Smith could be played here too but stay away from Charles this week.

      • Matt 12:39 pm on 11/21/2009 Permalink Reply

DeSean Jackson’s a WR1 every week regardless of matchup. He’s the best receiver on a team that passes more than any other squad in the league, and talent-wise is showing that he belongs in the conversation with the best in the business.

      • Squish 6:23 pm on 11/21/2009 Permalink Reply

I can’t speak for Brandon but I personally like Mendenhall over Jackson this week. He has a monster matchup against a team giving up almost 15 points on average to opposing RBs. Pittsburgh should be way ahead all day and he’ll get fed a large meal of carries.

Steven Jackson mostly is projected to have a good week simply because of who he is. He has a horrible matchup at Arizona and judging from the last couple weeks, I think STL is learning they might need to lean on the pass to get anywhere. They should be down early and go away from the run.

I feel like Mendenthal is a lock for a big game whereas Jackson has only a decent chance. If I had Mendenthal in any league I’d probably start him over Ray Rice, Frank Gore, and Steven Jackson. This is his week, I’d start him for sure!

Just wanted to share a humorous tweet sent out by the outspoken Saints tight end, Jeremy Shockey, regarding the possibility of LeBron James ever playing in the NFL…

everyone trust me Lebron James could not play in the NFL! espn is crazy to even think he could even make a practice squad. hes a 4.9 40 time

After the success of Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez in the NFL, I’m pretty sure fantasy football managers would be salivating at the prospect of seeing James in the NFL. All I know is that he’d immediately be the best receiver on the Browns the day he stepped on the field.

Shockey runs a 4.9-40. LBJ could run a 4.9 backwards or sideways.

Does anyone else out there hate these Thursday night football games? I have Panthers receiver Steve Smith in one of my leagues and all I can picture happening is that he has a lousy game tonight and I depress about it for the next three days. However, with Steelers rookie receiver Mike Wallace as my only other option, it appears that I’m going to have to stick with Smith and hope for the best. Of course, if he does well I’ll have a nice head-start going into Sunday’s games, but I’d still prefer all my players play on Sunday (or Monday)…not Thursday.

With the news that Ronnie Brown is out for the season, the fantasy world’s eyes are focused intently on 32-year-old former Toronto Argonaut Ricky Williams tonight. And why not? Williams finds himself the only healthy skilled tailback on a team built to run the football. For the time being, the Dolphins’ only other available rusher is Lex Luthor Hilliard, who has zero career NFL carries to his name. Expect Miami to take a hard look at free agents like Edgerrin James and Dominic Rhodes in the coming weeks.

Despite previously being behind Brown on the depth chart, Williams was already a top-15 fantasy RB, making him a rock-solid RB2. Now I think there’s little question that he’s an every-week RB1. There simply aren’t many running backs in the NFL who will touch the ball as much as he will the rest of this season, and you certainly can’t complain about the schedule: (More …)

That’s a tough call. The Bench humping really comes down to Driver, White, K. Smith and Driver.

I’m gonna say bench White (who’s questionable this week and hurting) and Marshall. I’ll give K. Smith the benefit of the doubt as he has actually performed well in the matchups he should have(NO, WAS, STL). I’d look for him to do the same here.

Honestly Marshall and Driver are roughly equal this week in my opinion. Most people prefer Marshall this week. I only picked Driver because of the matchup which is far better this week against a 29th ranked SF pass defense. In addition in his career against SF he’s put up almost 10 points per game including 2 TDS. Marshall on the other hand has put up under 8 per outing against SD in his career (7 games) including only 1 TD. I just have to go with Driver this week. White, in case you were still factoring him is facing the second best pass defense in the league and has averaged only 4FFpoints per game in his two game career against NYG. With his injury you have to avoid him.

OK…I went into emergency pickup mode after Turner went down last week. I even dropped my middle of the road Kicker and my week-by-week Defense to make sure I had choices at backup RB. Now it comes time to drop 2 players to pick up a K and Def for this weekend. Who should I drop?

Snelling (I’m thinking drop, but he is Turner’s handcuff)
Moats (I’m thinking RBBC with less upside, so drop)
Forsett (potentially big upside, so don’t drop)
Maroney (good playoff schedule, though Morris likely coming back soon)
      Austin Collie (probably not drop)
Donald Brown (injured and RB2, but is a Colt)
Greg Olsen (I have Celek and only play 1 TE)

Adam, IMO, my vote is for Olsen who blew his proverbial fantasy wad in Week 9. Moats would get my #2 vote based on your comment about his RBBC situation. Who is your #2 RB behind Turner?

        • Adam 1:36 pm on 11/19/2009 Permalink

I’ve been troubled in RB this season (though killing in QB and WR, and therefore 9-1). My other RBs are Hightower, Kevin Smith and Jamaal Charles. We start 2 QB, 3 WR, 2 RB, 1 TE, 3 Flex. 1 point per 5 receptions. 8 person league in which no one seems to want to trade.

        • e-roc 1:55 pm on 11/19/2009 Permalink

With Smith, Charles and Hightower (since Beanie is so injury prone), I think it should make it easier to drop Moats if you want to hold onto Olsen for insurance (and future cupcake matchups).

LOL! I need to get a picture of this one Brandon! No MSW?! Surely the world is going to end!

I like Scott, Cadillac/Maroney (Caddi based on matchup) and MSW actually. Hester is not worth a start until Cutler gets his act together. MSW is a risk/reward player. he’s never played Buffalo. MJD will likely be used all day but Buffalo’s pass defense isn’t as good as it looks on paper. They only allow 200 passing yards per game because they can’t stop the run. With the Jags being a team that constantly goes away from what the matchup suggests, I’d expect Garrard to throw a TD or two today. There’s just no way I can recommend a WR3 over a WR1 so Meachem is out. He could have a big game but he simply shouldn’t. Does anyone else realize he only has 20 targets the entire season? MSW has 3 times that! Go with him.

I need a RB2 (AP is my RB1). My options: Forsett, Jamal Lewis, Bradshaw, Betts. I know you’re not high on Forsett’s matchup. Betts against the Cowboys…not great. Can’t get excited about Lewis, but maybe that’s the best bet? Thanks for your help!!

One vote for Jamal Lewis… 1/2 vote for Betts.

thanks guys. yeah, if Lewis can’t produce against detroit (which i’m clearly not at all confident he will) he should just go quietly into that good night. but, i will take the half-hearted advice and give him the nod. great blog!

I like Beanie Wells as well, especially with Jerry Jones screaming about Felix Jones getting the ball more often (and therefor hurting Barber’s production.)

Agreed. If Beanie gets carries he’ll have a great day against STL. The only issue is whether Arizona will run the ball at all…

Thanks for answering my question on here. Wasn’t sure if my question was gonna get used, so thats pretty much how I have my line up. The reassurance is nice though.

I did drop Lewis to lock up chris cooley since my TE situation is Heap and Jermichael Finley. So I have Addai as RB1 and Forsett as RB2. I’m not a huge fan of Forsett in the spot. But I wouldn’t have been with him against arizona either. I don’t expect another 123 yards, but I’m hoping his talent as a receiver will help push his numbers up to a respectable number. Or at least better then Lewis lol

If Lewis is going to have a good game, this would be the week. And I signed him last week specifically for this game. But after watching monday nights game, I just don’t see him having a big game. The best he’s done is 11 points in my league. Thats his best. And he gave up a lot of touches to Cribbs and Jennings last week.

Detroits not awesome against the run, but their big weakness is certainly their passing game. So Im wondering how much Lewis is actually going to do. I think with limited touches, he’s gotta score to be worth it, and we all know how often that happens with the browns.

Im in a PPR league, so if Forsett gets 5 or 6 receptions for 40-60 yards thats 7 – 9 points right there. Plus whatever rushing yards, and he’s got a decent chance to score too.

But I left myself enough time with waivers to pick lewis back up if i need to haha

Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe has been suspended four games without pay for taking performance enhancing drugs. Hopefully he is not on your team! Chris Chambers will most likely get a few more looks per game based on this news.

    • Squish 2:50 am on 11/18/2009 Permalink Reply

On the other hand, I really wish they would name what the performance enhancing drug was. With it being a diuretic and having been in the preseason, I’m not sure it’s quite as serious as they are making it out to be. In the NFL, just like the NCAA, having over a certain concentration of CAFFEINE (a diuretic) is considered using a performance enhancing drug. All I know is that if it was caffeine, I’m going to laugh my ass off!

If it was something more serious, I’m thinking Bowe may not be returning this year. With him being one of the first wave of performance enhancing drug users in the NFL expect the NFL to be harsh on him. The suspension might be only 4 games but the coach may keep him out longer. But considering it was only a diuretic and not a steroid, I don’t see things being serious for too long.

Here are our waiver wire candidates for week eleven. As usual, you’ll find players who are either [Startable], a [Stopgap] to get you past a BYE or injury, [Worth a look] and spot on your bench, or [One-week-wonder]s who don’t warrant a roster spot, so you make your roster moves accordingly. You’ll also see the percent owned in parenthesis. This week we start off with a number of backup running backs who could have some immediate fantasy impact due to injuries to starters Michael Turner, Cedric Benson, Clinton Portis and Julius Jones.

I have both Michael Turner and Cedric Benson in the same league. I’m dropping Crabtree (5th WR) and considering picking up Snelling (ATL) or B. Scott (CIN). I could also drop the Cardinals D/ST since I also have the Colts D/ST so that I can get both Snelling and Scott. I have Ryan Grant on the bench but I would hate to have Snelling and Scott snatched up before I get a shot at them. So should I drop Crabtree and Cardinals D/ST for the two RBs? And who has a better chance of starting in place of the team’s RB stud?

      • Brandon 11:49 am on 11/17/2009 Permalink Reply

I’d grab both of them if I were you. I think Snelling has the biggest chance to produce right away, as I think Turner has the worse injury of the two. However, if Jerious Norwood returns, Snelling loses some value.

Should I be at all worried about Larry johnson starting on Sunday for the Bengals? I thought I had read a tweet about LJ not being active this week but I wasn’t sure if I was just mistaken.

        • Squish 12:28 am on 11/18/2009 Permalink

“Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said Monday that if Johnson signed with the team, he would be inactive on game days and become the Bengals’ No. 4 running back behind Benson, Scott and Brian Leonard.” Source ESPN

Anyway, don’t sweat Benson as I’m almost positive he will start on Sunday in a great matchup against OAK. Nevertheless, given how hard Benson has been pushed this year, it probably wouldn’t hurt to pick Scott for insurance purposes.

Did you end up dropping the Cardinals? I’d suggest keeping them over the Colts considering their remaining schedule. They play STL twice, DEt once and SF once in the remaining schedule.

Also, is Forsett available in your league? I consider his value to be higher than Snellings and Scott.

        • Shirley 12:49 pm on 11/18/2009 Permalink

Thanks Squish. I got Scott and Snelling just in case Turner and/or Benson don’t play Sunday. I did give up the Colts but I may have to consider trying to pick up the Colts again on Friday.

Mark, you seem to have a pretty solid roster. I guess if anything I might try to trade Rice or Sims-Walker for a better QB? Matt Ryan hasn’t been doing all that great this season, not Delhomme numbers but still. And you never know what Garrard will give you.

        • Squish 12:39 am on 11/18/2009 Permalink

I’d definitely try selling MSW while you have the chance. He has a horrible remaining schedule for WRs (ranked 28th) down the stretch. I’d target Palmer for a QB as he is undervalued and has a great schedule down the stretch. Roethlessberger is another great target.

Try to setup a trade where you give up Ryan or Garrard and MSW for a decent QB and someone undervalued like Cotchery or Hester or Burleson. I like to think you can improve on two positions if you play your cards right. Plenty of people will be after MSW and not many people have grown too attached to the undervalued guys I mentioned.

now i have Fitz, Smith(NYG), Knox. and then i have beanie wells, buckhalter, Fred Jackson, Betts, Forsett, Derrick Ward.
should i pull the trigger?? any advice is good advice

      • Squish 12:49 am on 11/18/2009 Permalink Reply

That’s a toughie. Though it is sell time for Forte owners, I think you have to hang onto your RB strength no matter how rough his schedule looks down the stretch. I can’t buy into having Wells and Betts as your RB1 and RB2.

It’s up to you though. In terms of value I think you are getting very good value for Forte. Honestly you couldn’t ask for much more. Plus Knox is virtually useless at his point so you do need a WR3. However, if you only start 2WRs you may consider staying as you are. Is there anyone available at Wr on your waiver wire. Even Chris Chambers replacing Knox would be a big enough upgrade to make the trade less ideal.

I guess what I’m saying is that in terms of value and matchups down the stretch it’s a great trade for you. It’s simply hard for me to imagine your RB core minus Forte no matter how poor his matchups are. If I absolutely had to make a decision, I would say go for it. But keep in mind it’s a very high risk, high reward move that could make or break your team.

        • Trevor 3:08 am on 11/18/2009 Permalink

          I agree with you its a 1QB 2WR 2RB 1TE 1RB/WR
i have depth at RB which is ideal in my league being so deep. only person worthy of being noted in the free agent market is Antonio Bryant, Muhammad, L. Moore. so nobody really even worth picking up.
and i do not want to have a betts, wells combo. and even if the bears running game sucks, he gets a lot of touches no matter what and the line is gonna have a good day one of these games. and he is in the check down game cause they don’t got good WR play. i think he could have a decent rest of the season if forte can stay a part of the check down game.
But just looking at it has a value deal i am getting my moneys worth on WR but i agree its a high risk high reward sort of think and i think i air on the side of caution.
          thanks

        • Squish 5:26 am on 11/18/2009 Permalink

Actually You may want to think about grabbing Antonio Bryant off waivers and dropping Knox. Knox at this point is completely useless and has averaged only an average of 34 yards and no TDs per game in his last 4 games. Bryant on the other hand is still shaking off an injury but he has upside once he returns since he is literally TB’s only WR. In the last 4 games he played he’s averaged around 50 yards and .5TDs per game. Keep in mind he’s not yet had the chance to play when Freeman starts and Freeman isn’t looking too bad. He’s not expected to play this week but he will likely be back for week 12 where you can expect a healthy WR3 performance out of him.

Just a thought though as Bryant should still be available next week. Just a heads up that he may be worth targeting in the near future.

As for the Betts-Wells combo, it’s a good idea to avoid it. Arizona just announced that Hightower is still far and away the starter so Wells is still kind of a question mark. After hearing that news, I think you’re making the right decision to hold off on trading Forte.

        • Rageinthecage 3:21 pm on 11/18/2009 Permalink

It’s never to early to prepare for the playoffs! The first and foremost best way to prepare for the playoffs is grabbing complementary defenses. I’d drop the Jets and pickup either Cinci or Arizona who have great matchups down the stretch. I wouldn’t recommend dropping the Saints for them but dropping the Jets for them is a smart move.

You are looking great at QB and can play the matchup game down the stretch. Romo has a tough playoff schedule but Palmer should be solid. AJ and VJ have great matchups down the stretch though DJ and Steve Smith have a tough stretch have a rough stretch. Rice also has a tough schedule but it shouldn’t hurt him since he’s so good out of the backfield. MJD has a bit of a rough schedule too but he’s a monster so no worries.

If I had to pick an area where you will be weak in the playoffs, it’s definitely at WR/ your flex slots. If you really want to upgrade, think about trying to trade DJ or Steve Smith for someone like Pierre Thomas or even Colston who has a very favorable playoff matchup.

Honestly though I think you could stay as is and do well. But if you want the same team with slightly better playoff matchups consider trading one of your WRs for a good RB.

Looks like a pretty solid roster to me and like Squish says, one way to get the edge is to look ahead and pick up defenses that are going to have great match-ups so you’re not fighting with people on waivers every week for the top defense.

With 46 receptions over the last 5 games, it’s hard to bench Welker at this point. His quarterback is slightly better than Chambers’ as well. As for your quarterback, the 49ers and Raiders pass defenses are both middle of the road. I’d go with Aaron Rodgers, playing at home, as he should rebound from last week’s game against the Cowboys.

SO for week 11, what are your opinions for me RBs and WRs? I did see your post about selling Forte, but I am in a league with a bunch of people who have played for years(me being the rookie) and none of them will go for it. SO having said that…
WRs… Colston, Smith(nyg), Evans, Collie, Floyd
RBs… Forte, R. Williams, Betts, Moats

I need 3 WRs and 2 RBs and a flex. I can pick up Snelling off the ww if he seems better than any of my other options at this point for RB.

I know I’ll play Colston and Smith and R Williams as well. I am debating about using Evans again since he has been doing better, but is pretty unreliable. Would love some input. THX

As for your line-up, I actually like Marques Colston, Steve Smith, Ricky Williams, Matt Forte and Jason Snelling (assuming you can get him.) If you don’t grab Snelling off free agency, I’d play Ladell Betts, who should start again this week.

OK. I’ve built up a very strong team in my 6-team league between co-workers, but now I want to look to the future because all these top players aren’t going to be amazing the whole way through! What advice does everyone have for the playoffs? (I’m tied for first with 2 others right now going into a battle for first this weekend)

      QB – Peyton Manning
      WR – Randy Moss
      WR – Vincent Jackson
      RB – MJD
      RB – Ray Rice
      TE – Jeremy Shockey
      W/T – Hines Ward
      W/R/T – Wes Welker
      K – David Akers
      DEF – Cinci

      BN – Sims-Walker
      BN – Steve Smith (NYG)
      BN – Joseph Addai
      BN – Matt Schaub
      BN – Philadelphia
      BN – Baltimore

We also play 4 IDPs but those are just a few extra points. This is a PPR league. (Who should I play this coming week.. Vincent Jackson vs Denver or go with a benched player? Vincent did not perform last week and is up against a tough match)

      • Brandon 9:19 pm on 11/18/2009 Permalink Reply

Holy crap, insane team there…but I guess that’s what you get in a six team league. Stick with Vincent Jackson, who should rebound nicely against the Broncos, who have been struggling lately. However, I am not completely against putting Steve Smith in your line-up for either Ward or Jackson…it’s almost a coin flip on those guys.

Need some help with my RB & WR. I have a STUD at RB with C. Johnson, but my others are good too solid depending on match-ups. Who do I start at the other RB position? A. Bradshaw, L. Betts, J. Charles, J. Forsett, J. Snelling or D. McFadden? I’m thinking of dropping D.M. for a WR. My WR are Sims-Walker, C. Johnson, M. Wallace, P. Harvin. The following WR are available on the FA board; D. Avery, J.Jones, A. Caldwell, C. Chambers, J. Avant and S. Stroughter. Should I stay with my roster as is or go for another WR and again who should my other starting RB be?

      • Brandon 9:15 pm on 11/18/2009 Permalink Reply

Ditch McFadden and grab Chris Chambers. See how many looks he gets now with Dwayne Bowe out of the picture.

As for your other running back, I actually like Jason Snelling the most out of the group. Most of them have pretty bad match-ups actually.

Jonathan Stewart for sure…as long as he plays. DeAngelo Williams is questionable (just like Stewart) and if he was out, Stewart would make a great start. Royal has done nothing this year to justify a spot in your line-up.

I have an interesting situation. I have clinched a playoff spot in my league, so I have three weeks to position for the playoffs and not worry about winning matchups. 12 teams, 2QB starters (ugh), 2RB 3WR, FLX

      My team:
      Aaron Rodgers
      Alex Smith
      DeSean Jackson
      Sydney Rice
      Greg Jennings
      Steven Jackson
      Brandon Jacobs
      Fred Davis
      NO DEF

      Julius Jones
      Hakeem Nicks
      Matthew Stafford
      Chester Taylor
      ARIZ DEF
      Ladell Betts

I dumped my kicker for the ARIZ D for their playoff matchups, I don’t need a kicker for a few weeks, so I can see what happens with Jones and Betts before I dump one of them. I also see the possibility of limited playing time for Rice if the Vikes clinch early.

What should I be doing to prep for the playoffs? Trade deadline is this week, but in my league there is very little trading happening.

      Thanks!

      • Brandon 9:22 pm on 11/18/2009 Permalink Reply

Seems that you must have had some good luck with your match-ups along the way to clinch this early with a team like that, but props to you anyways! It’s obvious that your QB2 slot is a bit weak, as is your RB2 and TE spots. However, your bench isn’t all that deep and I’m not sure what kind of trade value you would get from them. What kind of free agents are available in your league?

        • Dtrain 12:10 am on 11/19/2009 Permalink

You are correct all the way. I am in the lower 3rd in PF, but I have the least PA in the league, somehow I hit the jackpot with matchups. The waiver wire is pretty dry. I was thinking of trying to get some value out of the NO DEF to upgrade QB2 a little and play maybe ARIZ wks 15/16 and a good matchup for week 14. Like I said, it doesn’t matter what happens weeks 11-13. Looking at the other teams, I’m not going to get someone’s QB1 or 2, but perhaps their backup. Would Vince Young, Sanchez, Freeman, or Henne be better for playoffs?

        • Brandon 10:06 am on 11/19/2009 Permalink

I’m not sure those options are a whole lot better, but keep and eye on Vince Young, Josh Freeman and Mar Sancez as guys you might plug in depending on the match-up.

With R. Brown out, I need to fill his spot. Frank Gore is in and then either L. Maroney or A. Bradshaw?

      • Brandon 9:07 pm on 11/18/2009 Permalink Reply

Even with a tough match-up against the Jets (and a rough game vs the Colts last week) I think you have to go with Maroney. At least you know he’s the primary running back on the team at this point and Bradshaw hasn’t run well at all these past few weeks.

Hey Brandon, I need some advice on a starting lineup this week. I play in a PPR league & I need to start 2 WR, 2 RB, 1 W/R (flex). This is how I have it set up; would you change it up at all & start anybody that’s currently on the bench?

      WR – Andre Johnson
      WR – Jerricho Cotchery
      RB – Thomas Jones
      RB – Kevin Smith
      W/R – LeSean McCoy

      BN – Hakeem Nicks
      BN – Laveranues Coles
      BN – Jason Snelling
      BN – Jonathan Stewart

      Many thanks!

      • Brandon 10:10 am on 11/19/2009 Permalink Reply

The only change I’d consider is replacing Kevin Smith with Jonathan Stewart IF 1) you happen to be watching the pre-game show tonight AND 2) they announce that DeAngelo Williams will not be playing (he’s questionable at the moment.) Otherwise, I think you’re pretty good with what you have. Good luck!

it’s my first try at a fantasy league so there’s slot in still learning…
So here’s where I stand, it’s a 12 team league, non-ppr, and I’m thinking I need help if I’m gonna make it to the “postseason”

      Slot    Player
      QB    Peyton Manning
      QB    Mark Sanchez
      WR    Marques Colston
      WR    Larry Fitzgerald
      RB    Cedric Benson
      RB    Brandon Jacobs
      TE    Heath Miller
      W/T    Sammie Stroughter
      W/R    Mike Sims-Walker
      W/R    Jamaal Charles
      BEN    Mike Thomas
      BEN    Mike Bell

I know Stroughter looks iffy but it seems like his return numbers are decent.
Forsett isn’t an option in this league either, someone snagged him Tuesday, but some “names” like Snelling, Carlson, Faulk, and Moats are. Suggestions?
(if possible can you put my name in the response so I know you’re addressing me? Thanks)

Hey Tony, the way our comments are set up it should be pretty easy to see that we’re responding to you (plus I’m pretty sure we just enabled a feature that sends you an e-mail when someone responds to your comment.) Anyways, Stroughter has only had two games all year where he actually returned any type of kick, so I’d get him out of your line-up. Move Sims-Walker to the W/T spot and grab Jason Snelling off free agency to plug-in as your W/R.

Benson hasn’t practiced this week and is likely out for the game. I’ve heard talk that Larry Johnson has been taking more and more reps in practice, but I think at least this week the team gives Bernard Scott the ball and let’s him show his stuff. He makes a solid play this week against a dreadful Oakland run defense.

I hope they have fantasy leagues in my retirement home if I end up in one! Just another sign that FF is continuing to grow at a ridiculous pace.

Hope you guys all did well this week! About the only good week I had was in on my rapiddraft team. I just clinched my league and “beat the pros” this week (RD regular season ends 11th week, playoffs are 12th-16th). Moved up to 17th in the overall rankings. I just wish Rice would have been used more so I could have jumped higher! The good news is that this was an off week for me and I still moved up thanks entirely to Randy Moss and Chris Johnson (no thanks to Colston, Benson, Wallace, Clark or Cassel who I was forced to start with Schaub on bye). I don’t like to toot my own horn normally but with all the injuries this week to big time RBs, I like my chances at this thing!

      QB – Schaub(6th)/Cassel(22nd)
      RB – Chris Johnson(1st)/Rice(3rd)/Benson(13th)/Fargas/Buckhalter/Cadillac
      WR – Moss(2nd)/Colston(14th)/Wallace(34th)/Henderson(38th)/Knox(39th)/Coles
      TE – Clark(1st)/Shiancoe(13th)
      K – Gostkowski(3rd)
      DEF – PIT/GB/ARI

The format is 1QB/2RB/3WR/1TE/1Flex with PPR. So basically I have guys top 6 in there position starting at 6/9 offensive roster slots and 8/9 of my weekly starters are ranked in the top 20 at their position. My only weakness is at WR3 but I think I’ll survive if Wallace is my only weakness in a 12 team league with a 20 round draft ;)

The problem is a lot of the other teams on top of the leaderboard have very similar teams and I can’t expect to gain much more ground. This is why I spent the last 3 weeks strategically picking up defenses to ensure the best possible matchups down the stretch. The schedule of my starter each week looks like this:
Week 11 – PIT at home against KC or GB @ SF or ARI @ STL (all pretty juicy)
      Week 12 – GB @ DET
Week 13 – PIT at home against OAK
Week 14 – PIT @ CLE or GB @ Chicago or Arizona @ SF (all pretty juicy)
      Week 15 – Arizona @ Detroit
Week 16 – Arizona at home against STL

In other news, my Yahoo big money league has seen my team drop 3 games in a row. The good news is that I was in first before. The bad news is I’m barely hanging onto the playoff picture at 4th right now. I’m desperately weak at WR with only Welker/Knox/Caldwell/Cotchery/Nicks. Keep in mind it is a return yardage and PPR league but still it’s weak. Luckily i made a move for Celek early and I got some dumbass to trade Harvin (13th best scoring WR) for Witten who I’d benched all season. That move paired with Cotchery’s apparent return to relevance could turn the whole season around. With MJD and Rice at RB and Schaub/McNabb at QB, I’m pretty optimistic about the rest of the year!

Be it known that if I can win a substantial pot this year(especially the top few prizes in RD), you guys will likely see some of it coming your way! Thanks again for all the help!

  • Matt Forte Owners: Time to Sell

    Matt 2:38 pm on 11/16/2009 | 14 Permalink Reply
    Tags:

If there was ever a time for Matt Forte owners to try and dump him on the highest bidder, this is it. He’s had three straight respectable fantasy outings thanks largely to Jay Cutler’s difficulty throwing the ball to anyone else, but his YPC remains low at 3.4 and he simply looks nothing like the emergent superstar we were introduced to last season. Daily Herald columnist Barry Rozner thinks the blame falls at least as much on Forte himself as on the struggling offensive line.

The real reason to sell him ASAP, though, is the Bears’ upcoming schedule:

    Week Date Opponent
    11 Nov 22 PHI
    12 Nov 29 @ MIN
    13 Dec 6 STL
    14 Dec 13 GNB
    15 Dec 20 @ BAL
    16 Dec 28 MIN
    17 Jan 3 @ DET

5th-ranked rushing defense Minnesota twice – including week 16, championship week in most leagues – 4th-ranked Green Bay, 9th-ranked Philly, 6th-ranked Baltimore… yikes. The 28th-ranked Rams are the only reprieve.

Get rid of him now while it still looks (to an ill-informed manager) like Forte has finally hit his stride. It won’t last long.

    • Amir 5:58 pm on 11/16/2009 Permalink Reply

what type of player should i be looking to get for Forte?

      • Matt 9:36 pm on 11/16/2009 Permalink Reply

It really depends on your positional needs and the depth of knowledge the other managers in your league have. Just remember that in the eyes of some managers, Forte probably looks pretty tempting right now – he’s a first-round draft pick who, judging by fantasy points alone, is finally starting to produce. One thing you might do is take a look at FFToolbox’s strength of schedule chart and target other RBs with similar perceived value that have favorable schedules the rest of the way. What the perceived value is will be up to a judgment call on your part – what do you think the other manager thinks Forte is worth?

      • Ken 12:55 am on 11/17/2009 Permalink Reply

Yea it depends on what you feel you need for your team. If you just want a more productive back, I’d do exactly what Matt said.

If your RB situation looks good for the rest of the way out, then I’d start assessing what area’s you could use work with. Then go through each of the teams in your league and look for the ones who have the best options for those that look like theyd be in the market for a RB.

Chances are, unless you’re in a soft league with a lot of people that don’t pay attention, Forte’s not going to have a huge value, so anyone with a solid back set isn’t going to be too interested. (then again, if you see a player you really want, it’s always worth a shot) So you’re looking for a team thats going to need to take a chance on a RB like forte.

This weeks injuries might also prove fruitful for your trade prospects. If Turner’s injury forces him to miss time, you might be able to get someone of value off a turner owner for Forte. Anyone who had Julius Jones as their RB1 or RB2 would be an even bigger candidate as they’d already be hurting in the RB situation and would probably jump at a chance at Forte, if they weren’t able to lock up forsett.

Actually in the J.Jones situation, if Forsett is still available as a FA, I’d pick him up. This would eliminate the J.Jones owner from filling his need, creating a greater need for him to trade with you. Then you can either keep Forsett and trade Forte on his own…or package Forte and Forsett together for someone big on his team.

Smith does have the browns this week???

      • ken 1:51 am on 11/17/2009 Permalink Reply

I think if you can’t get Beanie, stick with Smith. Smith may have some horirble matchups coming up, but at least he’ll get consistent work.

Greene’s only been getting a third of the carries as TJ. And even in a choice matchup like the Jags, he still produced nothing. If he had scored the TD, he would have produced the equivelant of a bad day for Kevin Smith. But he didn’t, and then they put TJ in at the goal line the next play, which isn’t a good sign for Greene.

I like J. Forsett better then Green right now. He’ll be the sole back until J.Jones comes back, and even when Jones comes back, he may still keep the starting job as Jones hasn’t been great. His older brother TJ has been productive, isn’t injured and gets most of the carriers over Greene. If Forsett’s available, Id drop Greene for him.

      Jacobs (shares carries)
Portis (If comes back will surely split with Betts)

      Waiver options

      Wells
      Forsett
      Snelling

N.B. Someone has been interested in a Forte-Jacobs trade

Thanks in advance!!!!! I should just give you my login Squish!

      • Squish 1:13 am on 11/18/2009 Permalink Reply

LOL! I think you are okay as is. Well not okay, but you can’t really improve. Wells is looking really juicy down the stretch but the only guy you could really drop for him would be Betts. Turner should be back in 2-4 weeks and he has a great playoff schedule so you need to hang onto him. Obviously you can’t drop Jacobs. Avoid the Forte trade as he’s dead in the water at this point.

When do your waivers clear? If you wait a couple days you may hear some news that helps your decision. I’m have a hunch that the Redskins are going to announce Portis will be out for the rest of the season. Either way though like you said Washington will be a RBBC the rest of the year. Also note that Betts is actually playing injured right now. His coach announced he was only 75% for the last game and also stated that it’s a 3RB committee without Portis there.

All in all, the only move you can really make at this point is Betts for Wells. I’d consider making that move but depending on your waiver time watch for updates there then make a decision. Honestly if you could afford to, I’d advise you to drop Portis and Betts but obviously thats not an option. Consider dropping Betts for Wells but no more. I don’t think you have too much to lose by letting him go.

It’d be much easier to trade Forte if everyone and their mother wasn’t screaming about how I need to get rid of him. Sigh.

What do you think of this though: package Forte and the Saints DST for a top running back and a good defense? I know New Orleans’ schedule is comically easy down the stretch, but most of their value comes from their eight defensive touchdowns, and there’s no way that can keep up, right?

The trading deadline in the league where I can do this is today, but I thought maybe it could help some other kindred soul.

      • Squish 5:29 am on 11/18/2009 Permalink Reply

Sorry I was late on this one. I don’t think you would have gotten a trade accepted anyway. There are just too many good defenses still on waivers from week to week and nobody seems to value them right now. Don’t give up on Forte yet, he’s only half in the grave. He’s still a good receiver out of the backfield so it really doesn’t hurt him too much to have a rough schedule on the ground. Don’t sweat it!

I am in a three man keeper league and am currently looking to retain ray rice, matt forte and reggie wayne as my keepers. I have been offered ryan grant and calvin johnson for matt forte.

Who has the better keeper value heading into next year forte or megatron? Im assuming the top rbs available in the redraft will be along the lines of kevin smith, joe addai, etc. would this hurt my team to not keep two solid rbs and keep calvin and wayne instead?

      • Squish 5:54 am on 11/18/2009 Permalink Reply

I don’t believe Megatron has as much value as Forte in a keeper league. WRs are just two unpredictable after the top guys are off the board. How big is your keeper league? Just to give you an idea of what was left in a keeper league, I’ll use my 10 team keeper league which has basically 7 keepers per team. You’d be surprised at what’s left after the keeper’s are selected. The first picks at RB and WR after the keepers were gone went like this:

        Westbrook
Deangelo Williams (I got lucky having this pick!)
        Marion Barber
        Pierre Thomas
        Brandon Marshall
        Kevin Smith
        Antonio Bryant
        Thomas Jones
        Housh
        Roy Williams
        Ronnie Brown
        Hines Ward
        Ocho
        VJax – Me again :)

And this was in a league with 7 keepers per team (19 starting slots)! I figure that if you have 3 keepers per team for 12 teams, the RBs you can expect to get in the first few rounds will look like this:

        - T. Jones, Hightower, Grant, Slaton, K. Smith, R. Bush, Pierre Thomas etc. Not too shabby!

At WR, you’re likely to get guys like this early on:

        - MSW, Housh, Hester, Holmes, Burleson, Breaston, Mason, S. Smith (CAR), etc.

Overall, I think you’re better off keeping Forte. WRs are inconsistent every year and normally unless you use a keeper on one of the top 5, you can’t expect the world. Keep in mind how many top scoring WRs every year are guys that typically went late or were undrafted (MSW, S. Smith NYG, Austin, Rice, Manningham, Collie, Maclin) On the other hand, if you keep Forte you’ll at least know you have a solid starter the whole year. Even if he has a bad year again, he’ll still be more useful than say TO, Megatron, Bryant, Santana Moss, Eddie Royal and Braylon Edwards, all of whom were kept in my league. My personal rule is: “When in doubt in a keeper league, always keep the RB!” Hope that helps!

Here is the fantasy football “Team of the Week” for week ten, listing the players that scored the most points (using standard scoring) over the course of Sunday’s games. This is a sad day for Patriots fans, having to witness yet another come from behind victory by Peyton Manning and the Colts, capped off by an “interesting” call on fourth down at the end of the game! Anyways, today’s list had very little surprises (except the kicker) and is basically a “who’s who” list of fantasy football superstars…

    Pos.

    Player

    Stats

QB Tom Brady (NE) 375 passing yards, 3 TD, 1 INT
RB Chris Johnson (TEN) 132 rushing yards, 100 receiving yards, 2 TD
RB Adrian Peterson (MIN) 133 rushing yards, 10 receiving yards, 2 TD
WR Randy Moss (NE) 179 receiving yards, 2 TD
WR Brandon Marshall (DEN) 134 receiving yards, 9 rushing yards, 2 TD
WR Reggie Wayne (IND) 126 receiving yards, 2 TD
TE Brent Celek (PHI) 47 receiving yards, 1 TD
    K Connor Barth (TB) Kicks – 20-29 (0), 30-39 (0), 40-49 (0), 50+ (3), PAT (2) – Who? He made three 50+ yard field goals?
DEF Tennessee 17 points allowed, 2 sack, 2 interceptions, 2 TD

If Philly’s Red Zone offense wasn’t so terrible, D-Mac would have been the top scoring QB… 450 yards passing!!

      • Brandon 2:20 pm on 11/16/2009 Permalink Reply

Yeah, that was a bit surprising actually. The San Diego pass defense was supposed to be pretty good…but at least they kept McNabb out of the endzone for the most part.

        • e-roc 5:15 pm on 11/16/2009 Permalink

….to think, I almost traded McNabb, MJD and TJ Housh for Brees, Ronnie Brown and Crab-Apple….

This is hilarious…..Chick-fil-A is the one of the better fast food places. Is this in Cleveland?? If you’re not from the ATL if and when you visit you need to go to the first ever ChickFilA/Dwarf House, it’s pretty awsome.

I’m not even sure where I dug this photo up. Not sure if they have Chick Fil-A in Cleveland or if this is a long-distance dig at the Browns (which would be pretty funny in and of itself). Wish we had this chain up here in Rochester, NY… I fell in love with it on a road trip to Florida I took with some buddies back in college. We stopped practically every time we saw one; must have had it at least ten times on that one trip. Chicken for breakfast is especially awesome.

Man it’s been a rough week so far. I have about 8 games riding on Ray Rice’s performance on Monday. I hope he doesn’t disappoint !

      • Brandon 5:02 pm on 11/16/2009 Permalink Reply

I’ll join you in hoping Ray Rice has a huge game…although I don’t need it as much as you do. I’m already winning by about 35 points or something and have Joe Flacco AND Rice left. I’m just trying to climb to the top of the league in points scored at this point!

        • Squish 8:21 pm on 11/16/2009 Permalink

My problem was that Benson and Turner are my most owned RBs besides Rice. The good news is that Benson looks to be okay. Turner is who I’m worried about. Guess I can’t be too disappointed though since I least I don’t have Westbrook on any of my teams.

With the weather absolutely terrible here in the Northeast, I figured it was a good time to answer some of the Ask the Geeks questions that have come in over the past few days. We’ll most likely get one more post up before game time tomorrow, so if you have any last minute questions, make sure to get them in here or leave them as comments on this post!

Also, make sure to leave your feedback on our commenting system here at FFGeekBlog.com so we can figure out if we need to revise the system or not. Anyways, let’s get to the questions…

    Wolf asks…

Who would you put your money on…

    Brent Celek @SD
    Shockey @StL
    Carlson @Ari
    Shiancoe @Det

They’ve all been inconsistent.. who hits the mark with a good matchup.

Hey, guys! Would you trade your Christopher Johnson OR Ronald Brown for a Matthew Forte/Tony Gonzalez package?

My other tight end is Gregory Olsen and my accessory RBs are Bradshaw, Greene, Charles, Moats, and Bell.

      Thank you in advance!

      • Matt 5:15 pm on 11/14/2009 Permalink Reply

I definitely wouldn’t trade Chris Johnson for Forte + Gonzo in any case, and I don’t really like the Ronnie Brown trade either given Forte’s upcoming schedule – two games against the Vikings, plus the Ravens and Eagles. Pretty tough sledding.

Greg Olsen should be more than adequate at TE – despite Cutler’s struggles (or because of them?), Olsen appears to have finally hit his stride.

        • Squish 7:26 pm on 11/14/2009 Permalink

Agreed. Stand pat. Olsen should be solid the rest of the year.

Really struggling in deciding my Jacobs replacement RB, HELP PLEASE! It’s a MUST WIN week.

      Betts (vs DEN)
      C Williams (vs MIA)
      Fargas/Bush/McFadden (vs KC)
      Buckhalter (vs WAS)
      Bell (vs STL)
      Sproles (vs PHI)

      • Squish 11:59 pm on 11/14/2009 Permalink Reply

I think you have to go with Betts this week. The rest of those backs are all in committees and Betts will be too but with how poor their passing game is, he’ll get plenty of touches. So I’d definitely go with him. He’s questionable right now for his game so keep an eye on that. If it turns out he doesn’t play, go ahead and play Fargas since he’ll still have a large role on the first week of McFaddens’s return and has a good matchup.

You’ll be more successful if you consider every week a must win week ;)

        • Mal 12:30 am on 11/15/2009 Permalink

thanks Squish, I’ll slot in Betts for now and wake up early just before kick off (as am an Aussie) and if Betts is still looking injured I’ll drop him and pick up Fargas

Would Shonn Greene change this equation at all?

    • TeamWorseThanARectal 10:52 am on 11/15/2009 Permalink Reply

Hey, guys! I’m in desperate need of a flex this week: Charles, Avery, Greene, or Bell?

      You guys are the best!

      • Brandon 11:30 am on 11/15/2009 Permalink Reply

Jamaal Charles is likely to get the most attempts out of that group and has a great match-up against the Raiders. Shonn Greene is my second choice though and is the higher risk/higher reward play.

      Guys,

Mendenhall or Steven Jackson? I’m leaning towards Mendenhall because I’m thinking the NO game will be a blow-out early and they will not be using the running game all that much. What do you think?

      • Brandon 11:33 am on 11/15/2009 Permalink Reply

I’d still go with Steven Jackson. Mendenhall has a tough match-up with the Bengals and Roethlisberger will most likely take matters into his hands for a majority of the game. You know the Rams are going to get the ball to their only offensive weapon a ton of times (at least early in the game.)

      Hi Guys-

PPR league. Looking to play my best RB2. I have:

      Maroney, Betts, LT, D. Brown.

      I’m leaning toward Maroney…

      Thoughts?

Looking at a trade, Robert Meachem for Holmes, and Reggie Bush for Kevin Smith? would you consider either one? thanks

      • Brandon 11:59 am on 11/17/2009 Permalink Reply

I like Holmes and Bush, so feel free to trade away Meachem, but keep Reggie.
