Studs and Duds: Week 14

Going into week 14 of the NFL season, I'm assuming that this is the first round of the playoffs for most managers out there. Hopefully some of my suggestions last week were able to give you that final push to secure a playoff spot (and hopefully they didn't cause you to miss the playoffs!) If you listened to my recommendations and started Justin Fargas or Derrick Ward, you were most likely pleased with your decision. Also performing well was the Colts passing game, especially the Manning to Wayne connection. Then, as expected, Kevin Jones played poorly...although I can't take credit for just how terrible he'd actually be. Three carries for one (1) yard?!!! At least he got 16 receiving yards I guess.

The Wire: Week 14

Wow, I'm glad I'm a Patriots fan and not a Ravens fan after last nights game. Imagine the feeling those players had when they thought they had the game won...then realized that one of their coaches had called a time out? Ouch! Alright, that's enough rubbing it in. I was definitely on an emotional roller coaster watching that one though...let's hope the rest of their undefeated season is a lot less exciting (as they return to blowing out teams!) Anyways, the playoffs start this week in most leagues, so hopefully you have earned a spot in your league's tournament. In case you're in search of some last minute players to snag off the waiver wire that could help your team advance, here you go...

Sunday Wrap-up: JaMarcus Russell sighting!

That's right folks, yesterday we finally got a glimpse of the top overall pick in this years NFL draft...and a glimpse was all it really was. For some strange reason, coach Lane Kiffin decided the right time to give Russell some experience was early in the second quarter of the game. Russell led the team on two scoreless drives (going 4-for-7 for 56 yards) before being replaced by the games starter, Josh McCown. I guess maybe Kiffin wasn't ready to start him, but he also didn't want to bring him in with the game on the line in the second half...but it still seemed a little odd to me. Who knows how the Oakland quarterback situation will play out over the rest of the season though, with McCown, Culpepper and Russell in the mix, but I guess we'll just wait and see what kind of tricks Kiffin has up his sleeves. Anyways, with the Patriots about to beat the Ravens and move to 12-0 tonight, here is a recap of the action that took place yesterday (including Thursday's game as well)...

Rumblin', Bumblin', Stumblin' - Fantasy Football Player Value Adjustments - Week 13

Here’s a look at the guys who spent their time in week 12 doing one of three things: rumblin’ up the player value charts with big performances, bumblin’ through a rough week and making their owners nervous, or stumblin’ so badly that their fantasy value took a major hit.

Studs and Duds: Week 13

Did you go and start Eli Manning last weekend based on my "stud" prediction? If so, you're probably not too happy with me...but who would have known he'd throw 4 INT against the league's worst pass defense?! I did make a few solid predictions though, as Favre and his receivers went hog wild against the Lions, as did Kurt Warner. The Dolphins running game was horrible, as expected (with a little help from the weather), and the young guns Brodie Croyle and John Beck were pretty bad as well. However, along with Eli, I must admit that I mad a few botched picks, starting with A.J. Feeley (come on...was I the only one that predicted a bad game here?) and Rudi Johnson.

The Wire: Week 13

Well, it's week 13 and in all of my fantasy leagues, that means it's the last week of the regular season. If you're in a standard Yahoo! league, then odds are that you're in the same situation. I will try to provide some suggestions on players that could help your team get that final push into the playoffs, but like I've emphasized before, if you're relying on waiver-wire pickups to carry you through the playoffs, you're most likely in big trouble.

Sunday Wrap-up: Too close for comfort

Wow. That's all I can say after last night's game, where the A.J. Feeley-led Eagles nearly accomplished the upset of the century. I have to give props to the Andy Reid and the Eagles defense, as they were able to make Tom Brady look nearly human with all their blitzing schemes and by somehow managing to contain Randy Moss. In the end however, it was not to be. Let's just hope Baltimore doesn't give the Patriots that much trouble next weekend though...I prefer the blowouts I think. Anyways, here are some of the fantasy standouts from the past few days (I've included the Turkey Day games as well)...

Ask the Geeks: Week 12

I just wanted to start off this week's segment of Ask the Geeks by saying Happy Thanksgiving to all of our devoted readers! This weekend we'll be giving thanks for all the great readers who have visited our site and given us their opinions and asked us for fantasy football advice. We hope everyone continues to visit our site in the future. So without further ado, let's move on to those questions...
Abraham Lincoln asks: I have Kurt Warner in two leagues. His backup in one league is Kitna and Garrard in the other. Who do we go with this week?

Brandon's take: Wow, when you're blog starts getting asked for fantasy advice from famous dead presidents, you know you've made it! However, we're pretty sure we know this reader...and although he might grow a shaggy beard from time to time, he's no Honest Abe. Anyways, with regards to the question, I'm going to recommend that you stay with the hot hand...which is Kurt Warner at this point. All three defenses that those quarterbacks are playing are middle of the road pass defenses, but I think Warner is playing at the highest level right now. Kitna is coming off a 3 INT performance against the Giants and I just don't have enough faith in Garrard as a passer yet. As long as Warner is healthy, I'd keep him in there through the playoffs, as the rest of his schedule is fairly weak (SF, CLE, SEA, NOR, ATL, STL) and he's got the dynamic receiving duo in Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin.
