Non-football related post of the moment: TV Show Reviews

I originally wrote this post for my own personal blog, but I figured that I might as well share it with all of our devoted readers as well, just in case they were also fans of non-sports related television. Just to let you know, I'm an easily amused guy, so it doesn't take much to get a good review from me, so here you go...

Who will falter first?

At this point in the season, there remains four teams at the 4-0 mark. While the 1972 Dolphins aren't shaking in their boots quite yet, I bet they watch highlights of the Patriots, Colts and Cowboys games (probably not Green Bay games, although they are currently undefeated as well) each week wondering "Could this be the year?" At this point, if only because the AFC is deemed a tougher conference currently, the Patriots seem to be the front runners in the "Who will go 16-0 Sweepstakes?" this season. Tom Brady and Randy Moss form the best quarterback-receiver duo in the NFL, but not too far behind is the Tony Romo to Terrell Owens connection...and then maybe right behind that is Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne (I think Marvin Harrison is getting old). The great part for the 72 'Fins is that the following games will take place this season:

The return of Ricky Williams?

Now that week 4 is officially in the books, it's time to start looking at players who are eligible to return from suspension, and what bigger name did you need than weed-man extraordinaire, Ricky Williams. Williams has apparently applied for reinstatement to the league after spending some time a) being suspended from the league (for the 4th time!) for his habitual marijuana use, b) vacationing in India and Australia, where he was practicing yoga or something, and c) playing football in the Canadian Football League.

2007: The Year Injuries Reigned Supreme

It's been a weird fantasy football year in general, what with four of the top running backs having shockingly poor seasons so far and the out-of-left-field return of Kurt Warner, but the injuries have been an uncomfortably prominent part of the storyline all season.

Since when has Keyshawn been this good on Countdown?

I'm stunned by how personable and interesting Keyshawn Johnson has suddenly become on Sunday NFL Countdown. Where did that come from? He went from terrible and nervous every time I've seen him to completely confident on-camera. Weird.

Backup quarterback "packages"?

Maybe I'm just having a memory lapse in my old age, but since when have these alternate quarterback "packages" we've seen this week become popular? Yesterday we saw Kurt Warner come in for a few series because it became apparent that the team needed to score fast. Apparently they have a quarterback that is good at scoring fast and one that takes it easy. Then, tonight I see Kerry Collins coming in for a "package" where the Titans have very little time to score. How are these old men the guys that can help the team score faster? Isn't that the idea of the game...score as fast as you can? I mean once you have a good lead you can take it easy and run, but you're still trying to score always. What's next? Matt Cassel comes in for a quick strike package because Brady is too slow? Peyton Manning takes a spot on the bench with 50 seconds left in the fourth quarter and the team down by 5 while Jim Sorgi cruises down the field for the lightning speed score? Maybe the Bears should feature the Brian Griese package 95% of the time and put in Rex Grossman when they need to throw an interception or fumble.

Fantasy OVERLOAD!

I arrived back in Puerto Rico tonight, after being in Connecticut for the weekend, and man was I in for a surprise when I logged into my fantasy leagues. I recommend that if you're in 4 fantasy leagues, you don't log in halfway through the 4:00 games without having a clue what took place earlier. Just a few of the names that are blowing my mind right now:

Random football thoughts

I've been watching SportsCenter religiously since the beginning of the NFL preseason and I have to admit, my least favorite part is when "Fantasy Guru" Matthew Berry comes on. Is it just me? Or does he sound like a whiny little kid trying to get his way or something. Even if I agree with any of his advice, I hate myself for it afterwards. Can't they get someone a little more energetic or entertaining to represent the fantasy football world? On the other end of the spectrum is the Fantasy Football Guys, who sound pretty much like if Opie and Anthony had a bastard child with the Mike and Mike show on ESPN2...but just talked about fantasy football. I can't say I enjoy listening to them either, but at least their childish joking around is somewhat amusing at times. Matthew Berry is never amusing...NEVER!

I'll address those two questions in order, because order is good.

I hate Chris Brown

I have a confession to make. Despite my own doubts about Brown this week, I just couldn't shake the nagging thought that maybe, just maybe, he'd replicate his week 1 performance, and I'd feel dumb having a hot player on my bench. So, at the very last minute, I stuck him in the flex spot in one of my leagues... only watch him prove me right and get me a whopping 3.6 fantasy points.
