Yet another ridiculous Jamal Lewis pick in a mock draft

Is the Jamal-Lewis-in-the-first-round thing going to be a pattern in fantasy drafts this year? A month ago, I noticed with some horror that he'd gone tenth overall in Yahoo's "expert" mock draft. Now here he is going SIXTH in The Hazean's May mock draft. Haze's advice to anyone considering a similarly outrageous pick:

Keeper league resources

Getting a fantasy football keeper league started is no trivial matter. For the most part, you're going to have to live with the decisions you make before the first season for as long as the league lasts - which, if you do things right, could be an epically long time. The last thing you want is to be hearing the same old gripes from your league's peanut gallery twenty years from now. Here's a collection of resources from around the Web to help you get started the right way.

Offensive line rankings

Stumbled across this remarkably in-depth resource today. O-lines obviously have a major impact on fantasy player performance; when it comes to running backs in particular, you aren't really drafting the player as much as the line he runs behind. A perfect example from the Browns page:

2008 Quarterback Power Rankings

Hey everybody, hopefully you're enjoying your fantasy football off-season! Unlike my co-blogger Matt, I actually enjoy fantasy baseball quite a bit (I'm in third place, while Matt is in fifth), so I'm not chomping at the bit quite as much as he is for the football season, but I'm getting there. With the NFL draft done, it's time to start thinking about the upcoming year. Over the next few weeks, I'll try to get a decent set of power rankings up on the site, starting with quarterbacks this week. So without further ado...

Trading down in fantasy football drafts?

I'm intrigued by something I just read in this post on Rotowire's fantasy football blog. Blogger Peter Schoenke believes there's pretty solid consensus for the top five picks in '08 ("Tomlinson, A. Peterson, Westbrook, Addai, S. Jackson") and weighs who he'd take with the 6th spot (I'd go with Lynch, but that might be the Bills bias talking).

Jamal Lewis a first-rounder this season?

I was just perusing the Yahoo Roto Arcade fantasy football mock draft, minding my own business, when I stumbled across this flabberghastination (that's a word now because of this pick): Jamal Lewis with the 10th pick. Despite Lewis' very nice season last year, I'd never, ever take him that high, and here's why.

Fleaflicker acquired by AOL for undisclosed amount

Couldn't say I saw this one coming. AOL already runs its own fantasy sports leagues (which I've never tried), but they must not be attracting many users, or they must prefer Fleaflicker's technology over their own. I can't imagine Fleaflicker holding out for too much money, so it may have been a pretty painless way for AOL to reign in a competitor before they got too big. Now they've just got to worry about Yahoo, CBS Sportsline, Fox Sports, ESPN, NFL.com, FantasyPlayers.com, and about 100 other smaller sites. No biggie.

Fantasy Congress?

I'm actually kind of a politics geek too, so I'm totally signing up for this. This may be a sign of depression setting in - are there seriously like three more months before Yahoo opens up the fantasy football signups?

Rotowire strikes deal with Fanball to host fantasy leagues, nobody cares

Here are the details on the deal. Does anyone really use Fanball for anything other than player news? I've never found any of their offerings to be all that compelling.

What's the best keeper-league ruleset?

Brandon and I are in a keeper league that got its start in the '06 season. I'm the commish, and I've been pretty happy with the system we have in place for keepers. It's relatively conservative, it's fair, and it rewards good judgment on player potential while not going so far as to slam the door shut on teams who didn't make the best keeper decisions the previous season. The system we use is after the jump, and after using it for two seasons, I feel comfortable recommending it.
