Waiver-Wire Pickups, Keeper Sleepers and Spot Starts: Week 10

We're coming down the home stretch for the regular season here, with only four games left in many league formats. At this point, your team may already be out of contention, but for those still in the hunt, trying to survive the last week of teams on a bye, here are some players that might help your cause...

Big man's got wheels!

Besides the Adrian Peterson Show and Superbowl 41.5, the defensive/special teams touchdown run-back also took center stage this weekend. San Diego's Antonio Cromartie set the record for the longest play in NFL history when he returned a missed field goal for an 109 yard touchdown.

LaDainian Who?

For a weekend that was supposed to be completely dedicated to the Patriots vs Colts showdown, a certain running back did his best to steal the spotlight. As many websites are stating, Adrian Peterson was on a "Viking Quest" to break the single game rushing record...and he succeeded.

Kenny Watson to start

While both Kenny Watson and Rudi Johnson are healthy, the Bengals will start Watson at running back today. Whether or not this factors into the percentage of carries each back receives is yet to be determined, but if you have a better option than Rudi Johnson available, you might consider going that route.

Sammy Morris put on IR

In case you were hanging on to Sammy Morris with hopes that he would return from his chest injury soon, it's time to cut ties with him. The New England Patriots placed Morris on the Injured Reserved list and he will miss the rest of the season. This will increase the workload of backup running back Heath Evans and third down back Kevin Faulk. With starter Laurence Maroney back to health though, their fantasy impact will still be limited.

Ask the Geeks: Week 9 (Part 2)

Joe asks: I’ve got a RB problem on my hand this weekend. I’ve got 2 RB positions, and a W/R. I’ve got Addai, Marion Barber, Kevin Jones, and Frank Gore. My initial thought was Addai, Barber and Jones. What’s your take?

Brandon's take: Although you most likely spent a top 5 pick on him, I think you might want to bench Frank Gore this week. Addai is a no brainer to start. Kevin Jones has improved each week since returning from injury and goes against a terrible Denver rush defense this week (I've also projected him as a "stud" this week). The final decision is really between Barber and Gore. Barber proved that he can run against even a good rush defense two weeks ago when he almost hit 100 yards against Minnesota and should do well again this week. Gore on the other hand could potentially not even play this week with an ankle injury, but if he does I wouldn't expect all that great numbers anyways.

Studs and Duds: Week 9

Looks like I'm back to my winning ways, going 15-5-8 with my studs and duds picks last week. LenDale White, Brandon Jacobs and Reggie Brown validated their "stud" designations, but the Brian Griese and DeShaun Wynn picks didn't work out so well. Vinny Testeverde, Quinn Gray, and most of the Oakland backfield backed up my "duds" argument as well. With most of the focus this week being on the Patriots-Colts game, I have to imagine that nearly all offensive players in that game will have a successful afternoon, but here are some suggestions that incorporate some of the less glorious games of the weekend...
