Guest Post: Week 14 WR Fantasy Football Rankings

Editors' note: The following post was written by a guest blogger, Josh from Pro Football 101.

Must Starts:

1. Randy Moss vs. Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks have been getting lit up through the air, and until last week, Cassel was torching defenses as well. Look for Cassel to get back on track and for Moss to be the recipient of a lot of medium to deep passes. Strong fantasy play. 100 yards and 2 TDs.

2. Marques Colston vs. Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons are playing very well this year and are actually only one game out of first in the division. Regardless of that fact, very few teams have been able to stop Brees and his passing attack, and we don't see it happening this week in the Superdome. Look for Brees and Colston to once again have big fantasy days on Sunday. 100 yards and 1TD.

3. Anquan Boldin vs. St. Louis Rams. Boldin and the Cardinals return home after a disastrous trip to Philly and the Rams should put a big smile on their face when they look to clinch the NFC West title. Look for Boldin to return to his top fantasy receiver status and hit the 100 yard mark with one score.

4. Reggie Wayne vs. Cincinnati Bengals. The Colts won a very uncharacteristic football
game on Sunday by beating the Browns with only 125 passing yards. That will change this week. Rookie Joe Flacco just torched Cincinnati the other day and Manning will do so as well this week. Look for him to locate Wayne throughout the contest and for No. 87 to hit the 100-yard mark with at least one score.

Sleepers

1. Domenik Hixon vs. Philadelphia Eagles. With Hixon firmly entrenched into the starters role now that Plaxico figures to be out for some time, look for the young receiver to put up solid numbers. In the three games he's been asked to start that Burress has been out this season, Hixon has put up no less than 67 yards in any contest and had 100 yards and 1TD vs. the Seahawks in the first half alone of their week five game. There will be opportunities against Philly and Hixon and Manning will take advantage of them.

2. Eddie Royal vs. Kansas City Chiefs. Royal's emergence as a No. 2 receiver to Brandon Marshall has elevated Cutler's game to a higher level. In the process, Royal has become a big play threat as evidenced by his long TD pass he reeled in vs. the Jets. There are ample holes in the Chiefs secondary and look for Cutler and Royal to exploit them.

Other Match-ups We Like

1. Wes Welker vs. Seattle Seahawks. The smallish receiver is near impossible to cover especially on those short crossing routes. Look for him to have at least eight catches and possibly take one into the end zone.

2. Roddy White vs. New Orleans Saints. White is a star in the making, and he and Ryan have developed quite a rapport early on in the young QBs career. Look for Ryan to be able to attack this Saints' secondary on Sunday and for White to post strong numbers once again.

3. Greg Jennings vs. Houston Texans. Jennings has been on a tear of late and that trend should continue when the Texans come to town. In a football game of pure desperation for the Packers, we like Rodgers and Jennings to come up big.

I have Wayne, Boldin, Brandon Marshall and Hixon.

Which three would you start?

That's a good problem to have... I'd definitely start Boldin - the Cards are always a pass first team. I'd also start Wayne because regardless of match-up, and the Colts could get an early lead and begin running the ball, he's always a must start. So the dilemma lies with Hixon and Marshall. I think I'd lean on Hixon because he'll be the Giants' big play threat and he's produced in all three games this year he's started while Marshall has been quite inconsistent of late. The Broncos also have a good chance of playing with a lead and if that's the case, you'll see the ball handed to Hillis a lot. So Boldin, Wayne for sure, and then it's a toss up with Marshall and Hixon.

Thanks Josh. So the quandary still exists for me between Marshall & Hixon. I might look at the weather forecast or flip a coin.... and pray that Marshall doesn't repeat his Week 1 performance.

I actually have Hillis as well.

Thanks again.

No problem. Definitely check for weather as I think it'll be cold/windy/snowy up here in NY this weekend so that could affect the passing game. However, I do think the Eagles will force Eli to beat them as Arz/Wash have done in recent weeks, so that could bode well for Hixon. Do you have three quality tailbacks so you could just go with the two receivers or is Hixon/Marshall the better options at this point?

Our league set-up requires 2 RB, 3 WR and 1 TE. We don't have a flex position.... The forecast looks better in Denver than NY/NJ.

I've been playing running back roulette all season because I failed to snag a good RB in the draft (not even a Michael Turner, Matt Forte or Chris Johnson!). I'm sitting on Slaton & Hillis with Pierre Thomas & L-Wash. I wish I had better options, but I can't really complain with a Bye week this week.

You're looking good for the playoffs... Keep an eye on the weather, but I see Hixon getting at least 70 yards in this game and possibly a TD. Marshall might come back but opposing teams have been focusing more attention his way and that's why his numbers have been down of late.

I have a keeper league format question: This is our first year in the keeper league and we discover new unanticipated situations frequently.

In our league we are able to keep 3 players from the previous draft's rounds 1-10 (Regular Players) and 2 players from the previous drafts rounds 11-17 (Wildcard Players). FAs or Waiver Wire pickups act as your 17th round pick. Regular players are kept as 1st, 2nd, or 3rd rd picks the following year. Wildcard players are kept in the rounds you drafted them. Our regular season ended week 13.

Owner A (did not make the playoffs) is dropping half of his team and picking up anyone and everyone he may think will serve as a Wildcard player. He currently has no defense or kicker. Many owners believe this is cheap and unfair. Do you believe setting a rule that "freezes" EVERY roster for keeper purposes at the conclusion of week 13 is appropriate? Playoffs team would still be able to make transactions but would be unable to keep new pick ups.

Sorry for the length -- I appreciate comments -- Thanks!

Your question is a bit confusing but I think that all keepers for the following year should come from week 13 and before. Once the playoffs begin, it's another season and those players should be exempt from the keepers.

#9. Dave, 1 month ago

Yes - without going into great detail its difficult to describe our keeper format.

We just wanted to pass a rule that would prevent non-playoff teams from making unwarranted roster moves during the playoffs.

I was just curious if other keeper leagues had similar rules that "froze" the rosters at a certain point during the season to prevent this problem.

Thanks for the advice!

Yes, pass a rule that week 13 is the cut-off date. That will help solve any problems.

QB: Romo or Thigpen? Even though it's Romo, he's playing the Steelers and so I'm leaning toward Thigpen right now.
DEF: BAL (v. PHI) or ARI (v. STL)? The Ravens typically get more sacks and INTs than the Cardinals but the Cardinals are going up against the Rams...

#12. Josh, 1 month ago

Don't play Romo. It looks like Barber will have to sit and Pittsburgh will destroy this offense if made one dimensional. It'll also be 30 degrees or below.

The defense is a bit more tricky. If Steven Jackson has a big role in the game, I don't think the Rams will be as anemic as they've been. And for the Ravens, with Portis a non-factor even if he plays, they should be able to make life miserable for Campbell and the weather should be a factor too.

So the correct answer was Antonio Bryant, Brandon Marshall and Anquan Boldin... Bryant went for 56 points in our league.

#14. Josh, 30 days ago

Yes, Bryant had a ridiculous game. He's actually a solid play again as Tampa will have to pass in order to beat the Falcons on their home field.
