Well, it's week 13 and in all of my fantasy leagues, that means it's the last week of the regular season. If you're in a standard Yahoo! league, then odds are that you're in the same situation. I will try to provide some suggestions on players that could help your team get that final push into the playoffs, but like I've emphasized before, if you're relying on waiver-wire pickups to carry you through the playoffs, you're most likely in big trouble.

Before I go into the suggestions for this week, I'd like to mention that I have renamed this column "The Wire", as the previous title of "Waiver-Wire Pickups, Keeper Sleepers and Spot Starts" was too long and cumbersome. I know that the new title is currently being used by some other fantasy sports websites, but I'm hoping that our readers can see beyond my un-originality and continue to read the posts. Anyways, without further ado, here are your pickups for this week...

Adrian Peterson (RB-CHI): Although Cedric Benson wasn't the greatest running back in the NFL, he was definitely the uncontested starter in Chicago. Now that Benson is expected to miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury, expect Peterson to get the full load and a chance to see what he can do with it.

Sidney Rice (WR-MIN): I think he's made this list before, but after his 82 yard plus a TD performance this past weekend, I figured he should be on the list again. While very inconsistent, he's always a threat to break loose for a deep touchdown. He is my number one sleeper target in keeper leagues, so if you have a wasted roster spot, consider picking up Rice.

Greg Lewis (WR-PHI): With McNabb sidelined, it appeared that new quarterback A.J. Feeley chose Lewis to be his go-to receiver, as he finished with 88 yards and two scores against a tough Patriots defense. If Feeley continues to start, Lewis might make a good stretch play...but you might give him a week to prove whether he is a one hit wonder or not.

Derrick Ward (RB-NYG): The next contestant on the Giants "Running Back Musical Chairs" seems to be Derrick Ward, who should return from injury this weekend. He could be a free agent in your league and if he can play, he'll most likely start over Rueben Droughns (if Brandon Jacobs is still hurt) and would be a good play against a weak Chicago rush defense.

Andre Hall (RB-DEN): Just in case he wasn't picked up last week in your league, Hall played well enough this past weekend to be considered a contender for the starting gig in Denver regardless of injuries to Selvin Young and Travis Henry. He's got more upside and less risk than Cobbs (see below).

Patrick Cobbs (RB-MIA): This is a stretch pickup, but if you're desperate for running back depth, you might consider Cobbs. The Miami backfield has been decimated with injury this season and Cobbs appears to be the last healthy man standing after Chatman and Williams got beat up last night. Will Cobbs start next week, I'm not positive, but maybe he's worth the gamble if you have the roster spot.

Tony Scheffler (TE-DEN): Was Scheffler dropped in your league after a few mediocre games? If so, his latest 5 reception, 82 yards receiving and a touchdown performance should be enough to put him back in consideration for a roster spot. If you're starting someone like Greg Olsen or Owen Daniels, you might consider picking up Scheffler.

Jabar Gaffney (WR-NE): Don't expect a repeat performance from Gaffney anytime soon, but as with some of my previous suggestions, he could be used as a stretch play if necessary. He and Wes Welker seemed to be the receivers of choice when the Eagles were bringing the heat.
