I will pick Alexander over Gore if given the chance in a draft this year, and it seems like I'm one of the few who would (I'm somehow with Funston on this one). I think this is indicative of a mental flaw most fantasy players (and experts) have: Short memories. Yes, Gore's 2006 season was nothing short of friggin' stellar, while Alexander sat a big chunk of it out with a broken foot. But let's put last year aside and look at these two players' last five years.

Frank Gore

2002: Tears his left ACL during Canes preseason, misses entire season.
2003: Makes it through three games, then tears his right ACL, misses rest of season.
2004: Somehow survives season without major injury, rushes for almost 1,000 yards.
2005: Misses two games with groin injury. Has major surgery on both shoulders (why not?) after season.
2006: Huge fantasy season.

Given his past, is it in any way surprising that he started 2007 off with a hand injury? Are you really going to feel good after spending your first pick on this guy? I hope you drink most Saturdays, because that's the only way you're going to get any sleep those nights.

Shaun Alexander

2002: 1175 rushing yards, 460 receiving yards, 18 total touchdowns, no games missed
2003: 1435 rushing yards, 295 receiving yards, 16 total touchdowns, no games missed
2004: 1696 rushing yards, 170 receiving yards, 20 total touchdowns, no games missed
2005: 1880 rushing yards, 78 receiving yards, 28 total touchdowns, no games missed
2006: 896 rushing yards, 48 receiving yards, 7 total touchdowns, 6 games missed

Prior to 2006, Alexander wasn't merely a model of consistency - he was steadily improving from a great fantasy RB to a legendary one. Consider that before his broken foot, this is a guy who had never missed a single game due to injury (or anything else, for that matter). His foot is back to 100% now. He's still the focal point of a potent Seahawks offense. How is this guy not universally considered a better pick than a talented but injury-prone RB with one great season under his belt?
