Five Potential Shockers for Week 7

Aside from my call on David Garrard, my week 6 shockers were a big letdown after my surprising prescience in week 5. But I'm feeling it this week, baby. I get extra karma on these picks because I'm going to Orchard Park on Sunday to watch my Bills get slaughtered by put up a valiant struggle against the Ravens.

If you haven't seen my previous "shocker" posts, my definition of a fantasy shocker is a player who comes out of relatively nowhere, has a gigantic, multi-touchdown game, becomes the hottest waiver commodity the following week, and then soon sinks back into the relative obscurity from whence he came.

Cleo Lemon, QB, MIA: Even your football-hating girlfriend knows that Cleo's 2-passing-TD, 2-rushing-TD game against the Browns was an absolute anamoly. The guy is literally a Lemon, for chrissakes, and you can't overlook the fact that he threw two picks against the Browns, who only have five interceptions on the season.

But let's say the guy has a decent game against New England. Doesn't have to be anything fancy; three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing), one pick, 225 passing yards, and maybe 20 rushing yards would certainly qualify as shocking. Doing that against the Pats, especially if Ted Ginn is involved, would be enough to get most fantasy managers' attention.

Adrian Peterson, RB, CHI: No, not that Adrian Peterson. Cedric Benson's likely to struggle against a solid Philly rush defense, and that might give his well-rested backup a chance to audition for the starting role which Benson seems more than willing to forfeit. And if Peterson goes off in the first half, what incentive does Lovie Smith have to give any carries to Benson for the rest of the game?

Antwaan Randle El, WR, WAS: Arizona's already-pretty-crappy defense took a big hit when their best pass rusher, Karlos Dansby, went down with a knee sprain (expected to miss 3-4 weeks). Randle El's healthy enough to play, and he's already shown what he can do against bad defenses (162 yards against Miami, 100 against Detroit). He hasn't scored yet this season, but expect that to change this week.

Randy McMichael, TE, STL: Bulger's still hurting, but he's going to start, and considering the Rams' decimated offensive line and Bulger's gimpy ribs, it seems like McMichael would be a nice safe target he'd look to often. McMichael's too good to not have a nice outing at least once this season; the Seahawks-Rams rivalry sets the scene nicely, methinks.

Dominic Rhodes, RB, OAK: LaMont Jordan says his back's feeling better, but who knows? If he goes down early, Rhodes could be in for a big game against the KC rush defense. If that happens, Rhodes could turn out to be the hottest waiver commodity in the league come Tuesday.
