Rumblin', Bumblin', Stumblin' - Fantasy Football Player Value Adjustments - Week 14

Here’s a look at the guys who spent their time in week 13 doing one of three things: rumblin’ up the player value charts with big performances, bumblin’ through a rough week and making their owners nervous, or stumblin’ badly enough to pretty much wreck their fantasy value.

Rumblin'

Dallas Clark, TE, IND: Two touchdowns in week 13 and nine on the season, which is tops in the league. Thanks to yardage, Gates and Witten are still better options in all but touchdown-only leagues, but Clark's a weekly threat to score.

Braylon Edwards, WR, CLE: A string of games against tough opponents had kept his numbers down for the past few weeks, but he blew up in week 13 for 149 yards and a TD against the Cards. And check out his next three matchups: Jets, Bills, Bungles. Look out.

Edgerrin James, RB, ARI: Good to see that Edge can still wear down a bad defense (114 yards against Cleveland), since he won't have to deal with any good ones the rest of the way. He's averaging 4.7 ypc in his last two, and his next three matchups are Seattle (allowing 104 rushing ypg), New Orleans (102), and Atlanta (122).

Andre Johnson, WR, HOU: In four of five games that he's played this season, he's had over 100 yards and at least one TD. Dayum.

Calvin Johnson, WR, DET: He hasn't done anything to deserve the Rumblin' designation, but his value skyrockets now that he's the primary target with Roy Williams out. We haven't heard anything about his back recently, so it might finally be time for him to live up to the pre-season buzz.

Adrian Peterson, RB, MIN: Alrighty then - he's back.

Reggie Wayne, WR, IND: It's hard to worry when you've got Wayne on your team: when Peyton has a rough day, Wayne still does OK; when Peyton has a big day, Wayne gets the lion's share (as he did in week 13). He's the fantasy football equivalent of one of those squishy stress reliever things that you and I both know are really boob simulators (hence the stress relief).

Bumblin

Chris Chambers, WR, SD: Chambers is doing Antonio Gates a huge favor by distracting the defense. Unfortunately, he's not doing his fantasy owners many favors by serving essentially as a decoy for the rest of the offense. Matchups with Tennessee and Denver in the nest three aren't looking so hot for him, as he'll draw the best corner and again watch LT and Gates get the numbers.

Jesse Chatman, RB, MIA: Two games in a row now, he's had to leave early due to injuries (neck, ankle). He'd normally be a decent play against Buffalo this week, but you've got to keep an eye on him. We'll know more after today's practice.

Greg Olsen, TE, CHI: My favorite TE prospect has pretty much vanished lately (3 catches in last 2 games). It doesn't look like his role is going to expand to the level of a Gates or Witten, so you might want to look elsewhere. I actually prefer Tony Scheffler slightly at this point, rough week 13 notwithstanding.

Stumblin

Plaxico Burress, WR, NYG: His 93 yards and a TD in week 12 gave owners hope, but his 36 yards last week reminded owners: He's not a reliable option at this point, due to his injured ankle and Eli's inconsistency.

Lee Evans, WR, BUF: He's only an option for the desperate at this point; four straight mediocre performances, and with Edwards at the helm, he's just not as central to the offense.

Eli Manning, QB, NYG: There's nothing I can say that the New York press hasn't already hammered home effectively, so just stay away.

Jeremy Shockey, TE, NYG: I'm willing to bet that Shockey's (still) the starting TE on more last-place fantasy teams than any other TE in the NFL this season. He's the ultimate high-name-recognition, mediocre-performance player in fantasy football. I'm not saying he's a terrible option at TE, just that he's overvalued, and owners who have him right now probably overpaid in the draft or a trade to get him.

Donte Stallworth, WR, NE: He gets a few looks every game, but not enough to make him an enticing fantasy option, especially since he hasn't found the end zone in five weeks.
