Rumblin', Bumblin', Stumblin' - Fantasy Football Player Value Adjustments - Week 12
Here's a look at the guys who spent their time in week 11 doing one of three things: rumblin' up the player value charts with big performances, bumblin' through a rough week and making their owners nervous, or stumblin' so badly that their fantasy value took a major hit.

Cedric Benson, RB, CHI: Finally, some music to Benson's owners' ears: Benson played so well for once, the Bears' chief regret is that they didn't give him the ball more often. How's this passage by Chicago Tribune sportswriter David Haugh sound to you, Benson owners?
The burst everyone had been waiting for finally showed up on a 43-yard touchdown run on the Bears' first run from scrimmage. The emotion everyone wondered if Benson was capable of showing poured out of him like sweat after the most satisfying run of his NFL career.
Meanwhile, backup Adrian Peterson did nothing with the carries he received. It's still Benson's job to lose, and he's got the Chicago press, including the Tribune (above) and the Sun-Times, on his side for once. Lovie Smith is really doing a heckuva job, by the way - you leave Benson in all season while he struggles, then take him out the first time he plays well?
Detroit DEF: I keep waiting for them to fall off their perch as the top defense in fantasy football, but they've more or less cemented it in the past three weeks, allowing only 30 points, scoring two touchdowns, sacking the QB nine times, and recovering a whopping eight fumbles (next-highest team total is four over the same period). On the season, they're 7th in sacks, 2nd in INTs, 1st in fumble recoveries, 2nd in TDs, and 2nd in blocked kicks. And for some reason, I can see in Yahoo right now that they were dropped in 2,094 leagues so far today, and 5,080 leagues yesterday. I don't understand it either, but you should definitely see if they're available in your league.
Dwayne Bowe, WR, KC: Bowe owners are praying that Herm Edwards sticks with his young gun Brodie Croyle, for whom Bowe is clearly the primary target, the rest of the way. Well, maybe Bowe's his secondary target, after his smokin' hot wife (SFW).
Andre Johnson, WR, HOU: It's rare that a player comes back from a long-term injury and is that effective right away (120 yards and a TD). (Not that I didn't call it - please ignore the Ahman Green mention in that post, by the way.)
Willis McGahee, RB, BAL: So I was saying to a fellow Bills fan a few weeks ago, "Willis McGahee? I wouldn't say anything positive about him on my blog unless he scored a touchdown in five games in a row. Good thing that'll never happen because he sucks so much." Crap.
Matt Schaub, QB, HOU: He looked good against New Orleans, but remember - who doesn't? He earns a spot on the Rumblin' list because he was able to come back from injury and immediately get back in sync with Andre Johnson, and he's a superb start next week against Cleveland, but it gets tougher from there, with games against Tennessee, Tampa Bay, a resurgent Denver, and Indy.
Chester Taylor, RB, MIN: Something we should all take from Taylor's explosion in week 11 is just how good the Minnesota offensive line is. I can't remember the last time a team had lines this good on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, and just plain stank at every other position on the field. Taylor's backup, Mewelde Moore, isn't a terrible pickup right now if you're got a spare bench spot - if Taylor were to get injured, he'd get his turn behind the Irresistibly Purple Force and probably be every bit as effective.
Moss, Brady, T.O., Romo: Yeah, yeah, whatever.

Santonio Holmes, WR, PIT (and Ben Roethlisberger): Holmes has had a great season so far, but his fantasy owners are praying that his ankle injury won't have the same effect on his production as Plaxico Burress' has on his. Roethlisberger's status as a top-tier fantasy QB is also on the line; as JJ Cooper points out, "take [Holmes] away and the Steelers quickly become a team of possession receivers."
Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, JAC: The touchdown was nice, but what was with the 2.8 ypc and only getting 12 carries to Fred Taylor's 20? This was pretty amusing, though. Merriman might as well throw caution to the wind at this point and go have a talk with his "pharmacist."
Peyton Manning, QB, IND: You've got to keep starting him, but with a 64.5 QB rating in his past four games (along with 5 TDs and 8 INTs), this is not the Peyton Manning you invested in. One thing's for certain - the difference between Peyton and Brady: One of them's still a Pro Bowler even when he doesn't have big-time weapons at his disposal - and the other clearly isn't.
LenDale White, RB, TEN: Two awful games in a row and a 3.0 ypc average in his last three. Luckily, the schedule gets much easier from here, starting with Cincinnati next week; the toughest rushing D he faces after that is Kansas City (ranked 17th).

Plaxico Burress, WR, NYG: Four crappy performances in a row. The week 9 bye did nothing for his ankle. He's "no longer scaring anybody as a deep threat." If he can't pull it together against the league-worst Minnesota secondary in week 12, put him on your bench and keep him there.
Kevin Jones: If he thought running against Arizona and the Giants was tough (and clearly he did, since he netted a total of 21 rushing yards in those two games), how's he going to enjoy his next three matchups - Green Bay (#7 rushing D), Minnesota (#3), and Dallas (#5)?
Adam Vinatieri, K, IND: If I owned him (which I don't, because I always take kickers in the last round, without exception), I'd drop him right now. It's not worth holding onto him when he's struggling with whatever he's going through, especially when he's only the 12th-best fantasy kicker so far this season. Guys like Phil Dawson, Matt Stover, and Jeff Wilkins might be available in your leagues, and they're all safer plays at this point.

Are you sure you always take kickers in the last round? I think I recall this one time...

I'll never live that down, I guess.

did you guys see the commercial with vinatieri going through the Xray machine at the airport, and he keeps getting stop because of one of his 4 superbowl rings, all the while Jim Kelly (loser of 4 superbowls) is behind him in line, obviously frustrated.
Not a big Vinatieri fan, but the commercial is great.

No, and I'm going to say Vinatieri's recent struggles are a direct result of that commercial. And shame on Jim Kelly for participating.

I'm trying to beat the Cape Cod Canal Kid Scott Blanchard this week and need to decide between Bulger and Warner week 12.
Any ideas ?
Thank you.

Hah...I've seen that commercial, but I never paid attention to anyone except Vinatieri and the security guard. I'll have to play closer attention next time.
