Cut Your Losses: Players to Drop, Week 6

LenDale White, RB, TEN: In bigger leagues, both White and Chris Brown are worth holding on to, but in smaller leagues, White's quickly becoming expendable. He's averaging 3.4 yards per carry (compared to Brown's 5.3), he lost a fumble in the last game, and, worst of all for White, Brown got the call on a goal-line play - and scored. If, as it now appears, White isn't the sole goal-line option, he's got very little upside.

Ahman Green's backups (Ron Dayne, Samkon Gado): Neither backup did anything of note while Green was out, and head coach Kubiak gives Green an "excellent chance" of returning this week. Once he's back, he'll be the feature back, since nobody else on the Texans did anything to justify getting a piece of the action.

Isaac Bruce, WR, STL: I listed him in this column after week 1, and the old man burned me with 145 yards in week 2. Since then, though, he's done precisely dick, and now he's battling a hammy problem. Oh, and once he's healthy, he'll either be catching passes from Gus Frerotte or a banged-up and thus-far-ineffective Marc Bulger.

Denver DEF: Does this sound promising to you?

Chester Taylor, RB, MIN: He's in a situation similar to LenDale White's, only worse: He's undoubtedly the less-talented guy in the backfield, and as the season wears on and Peterson gets more and more comfortable in the offense, he's going to see his share of the load continue to shrink. Trade him if you can; drop him if you can't.

Reuben Droughns, RB, NYG: Is it just me, or is "Droughns" the most depressing last name in history? Jacobs is fine, and any goal-line work that Reuben was getting while Jacobs was gone is no longer going to be him; Jacobs was Tiki's goal-line vulture before this season, and he'll obviously still get the ball in those situations.

Muhsin Muhammad, WR, CHI: He hasn't done anything all season, and Griese doesn't seem to know who he is. Griese looks OK at best, so you really don't want any part of this offense beyond Berrian, Benson, and Olsen.

first time here, nice site, good insights....

On the post, I completely agree on Reuben Droughns. Jacobs came back with a vengeance in week 5, and although Jacobs looked strong, so did Derrick Ward. Where does that leave Droughns? Nowhere, but he wasn't good since that one year in Denver.

On Taylor, I'm not sure I'd let him go in a larger league. The Bucs were reportedly trying to acquire Mewelde Moore from the Vikes. I know they just got Zack Crockett (whoopdidoo) and don't know if they're done shoppping. If they get Moore, Taylor has to be the solidified #2 guy in Minnesota.

As for Moose, I would think that Griese's dependence on shorter and intermediate routes would cause him to target Muhammy more. I'd give it another week for Moose for those who have him.

Good points Jim. In larger leagues, Taylor's at least worth holding on to in case Peterson gets hurt, but at this point it seems likely he's going to be nothing more than a handcuff by week 8 or 9. Too bad for him, because I think he's an underrated back who could be a Rudi Johnson-type workhorse in the right situation. He just got paired up with a rookie who's clearly going to be a force in the league very soon.
