After his second alcohol related incident in a month, the Chicago Bears have parted ways with their “supposed to be a superstar” running back:
“Cedric displayed a pattern of behavior we will not tolerate,” general manager Jerry Angelo said in a statement. “As I said this past weekend, you have to protect your job. Everyone in this organization is held accountable for their actions.”
It probably didn’t help that the Bears were probably already looking for alternatives at the position as Benson has been a massive disappointment since entering the league in 2005, averaging under four yards a carry and fifty yards a game throughout his career at this point. Note to players: If you’re sucking, don’t go and start screwing up off the field, or you’re likely to be canned…
…which brings me to my next subject, Mr. Travis Henry, previously of the Denver Broncos. While this is old news, it makes sense to bring it up along with all this talk of Cedric Benson and Marshawn Lynch. Travis Henry was cut from the Broncos about a week ago:
“He’s just too inconsistent as a person. When you’re too inconsistent as a person, you usually aren’t going to win championships,” Shanahan said during a spring workout later in the day.
“I’m not going to get into details what he did do or didn’t do. You have to do little things. If you don’t do the little things, obviously you can’t count on somebody. So that’s why he’s released.”
Fantasy Impact: So where in the realm of fantasy football does it leave these two players? At this point, they’re on the outside looking in and it does not make sense to try to place them on a cheat sheet until some team decides they want to take a chance on either of them. There’s still a good amount of time till the season starts, so I’m sure we’ll see at least one of these players on an NFL roster at some point this year, but will they make an effective fantasy starter? Most likely not. Obviously, the stock of Bronco’s backs Selvin Young and Andre Hall, as well as Bears rookie running back Matt Forte (it appears he, not Adrian Peterson, will get the ball to start the season) are boosted. However, in Forte’s case, don’t expect a whole lot out of a Chicago offense that is poised to be the worst in the NFL at this point.
