Brandon Marshall: Just another day in the life
Of all the guys I have to share my name with, it happens to be one of the most talented, young and upcoming receivers in the NFL...but also one of the stupidest. Consider these events that have transpired over the short career of Brandon Marshall, wide receiver for the Denver Broncos:
- Present the night that teammate Darrent Williams was shot and killed during a drive by following a night out at a club. According to former teammate, Javon Walker, Marshall was spraying patrons with champagne, which started a confrontation that may have led to the shooting (ironically, Javon Walker was spraying patrons with champagne the night he was mugged in Las Vegas)
- Forced to go to court due to a domestic disturbance with his girlfriend
- Rough housing with his brother, he slips and slices his arm open. Luckily the injury should be fully healed by the start of the season
- Arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence while driving down the wrong direction on a one way street
- Most recently, he was pulled over and cited with making an illegal lane change and driving without a valid license or proof of insurance
If this latest run-in with the police doesn't cost him a league suspension of a few games, he'll be REALLY lucky. Hopefully though your league's draft is in August so we can see if there is any more fall out from this. Apparently he is catching passes one-handed with his bad arm in practice these days, so his injury should not be a worry by the beginning of the season, just his troubles with the law.
Impact: If he is not suspended, Marshall is a top 10 wide out. If he ends up suspended for a couple games, his draft position should drop a few spots, but not too much, as he'll still be around most of the season to help your team. Also, if he's suspended, you should boost the value of Tony Scheffler and Brandon Stokley, as they'll have a few games to develop more chemistry with quarterback Jay Cutler while Marshall tries not to get arrested.
Based on what we know now, I'm drafting Marshall somewhere around the Anquan Boldin's and Roy William's. If there turns out to be no suspension, I'd move him up to around the 10th receiver, as he's going into the magical third year for wide receivers, after putting up monster numbers in his sophomore campaign last year.
