Ask the Geeks: Week 9

Jason asks: Would you sit Addai and Wayne against the Pats? I can plug in Willis McGahee and A. Boldin as replacements.

Matt's take: The Pats may have one of the toughest rushing defenses in the league, so Addai's not as strong a play as he normally is. But look at who McGahee's up against - the Steelers' even-tougher rushing defense. Starting a lesser RB against a better rush D makes zero sense.

Reggie Wayne, meanwhile, is a must-start. Always. I don't care who he's playing. Peyton Manning is good enough to find him against any defense. And why would you have to plug Boldin in as a replacement for Wayne? Isn't he just your #2 wide receiver?

This question makes less and less sense to me the more I think about it.

Brandon's take: The short answer: No. Play Addai and Wayne. This will be an offensive fireworks display. I expect big numbers from all skill players involved. By the way, the Patriots only have a good rush defense because they force opponents to start throwing the ball in the first quarter (Indy will most likely not be forced into that situation until the third quarter at the earliest).

Chris asks: Who would you start: Big Ben vs. Baltimore, or Campbell vs the Jets?

Matt's take: Baltimore's only the 9th-ranked defense against the pass (#2 vs. the rush), so they're not as scary as you think they are. Jason Campbell managed to put up a stinker against Miami (54.2 QB rating, 0 TD, 2 INT), so there's no reason to think he can't do the same thing against the Jets.

Brandon's take: At this point there is NO scenario in which I would start Campbell over Roethlisberger.

(A different) Chris asks: Hey guys, I am currently tied for 1st and this week will determine the outright lead in the league. The problem with week 9 is that I have 4 hot receivers now. So, who should I start out of Colston, Jennings, Engram, and Evans? I was thinking about benching Engram but he may have a huge week on a weak Cleveland pass D. What do you think?

Matt's take: You're right, Chris, that's a tough call. I do think you bench Engram here - he's only scored twice all season, and despite the matchup, he's the least likely of those four to have a monster game on your bench (not that it couldn't happen, but he's just not as explosive as any of the other three).

Brandon's take: That is a tough one. All of them "hot", but I can't say that any of them are locks to have a good game this weekend. I'm going to disagree with Matt though and take Colston to sit here. Besides last weekends game (against the 49ers), he has been disappointing. You could say the same with Evans, but he has 2 good games in a row and a horrendous pass defense this weekend. Colston plays the Jaguars, who have been good at limiting touchdowns through the air this season (only 5 allowed). Even with Branch and Hackett back, I can see Engram having a solid game, and Jennings is usually good for 70 yards and a TD.

Hey gentlemen.

I've got a RB problem on my hand this weekend. I've got 2 RB positions, and a W/R. I've got Addai, Marion Barber, Kevin Jones, and Frank Gore. My initial thought was Addai, Barber and Jones.

What's your take?

Hey Guys,

I am in a RB Bind. The league I am in allows us to carry over points into a bye week if we elect to before the game starts. Last week, I elected to carry over Brandon Jacobs' points into this week. Now I am in a bind as we can only start 2 RBs and one of the starters is filled. Who do I start as my second RB?

J.Addai (Ind)
K.Jones (Det)

1 pt for every 20 yds rushing/receiving and 6 pts / TD.
Please help.

L Jordan vs Hou
J Lewis vs SEA
M Barber vs PHI

Which two should start?
