Ask the Geeks: Week 8
Brandon's off somewhere again, so it's just me. Again. I'm a latchkey co-blogger.
Richard asks: long question, trade or not variety. eight team league with two rb, two wr, and two flex. i have as rbs 1. larry johnson 2. westbrook 3. travis (it wasnt me) henry 4. lamont jordan. both henry and jordan are handcuffed with young and rhodes. my wrs are 1. ocho cinco 2. plaxico 3. donte stalworth 4. brandon marshall.
the offer: randy moss, earnest graham, chatman, and my choice of braylon edwards, tj houzmawhateve, reggie wayne in exchange for plaxico and larry.
im inclined to do this but our structure is playoffs last two weeks and lj (with kc probably fighting for spot) looks really good those last weeks. what say ye?
Matt's take: I have a question for our readers: What kind of leagues are you all in? How does one team wind up with LJ, Westbrook, AND Travis Henry? Those were all first-round guys in every league I'm in this season. Did I miss a memo? Is the new trend to have four teams per league? It seems like almost every question we get comes from a reader with an absolute monster team.
As for the trade, that's pretty unbalanced in terms of how many players are changing hands. You'd be accepting four players and giving away two - do you have two players on your bench that you're willing to drop? Generally, I hate trades where I'd be giving up two top-tier players for four lower-level ones, but he's offering you some pretty awesome talent.
My concern in this case is the RB corps you'd wind up with: Westbrook, Graham, Chatman, Henry, and Jordan. In most leagues I'd consider that a great group, but since you're obviously in a very small league, it might be risky to have an un-handcuffed Westbrook as your top option, followed by unproven guys like Graham and Chatman, and uncertain situations with Henry/Young and Jordan/Rhodes.
That said, getting Randy Moss and Reggie Wayne (the obvious choice over Housh and Edwards) would give you a pretty unstoppable group of WRs. It's a decent bet that they'll end up as the top two scoring fantasy WRs this year. As long as you can spare the two guys you'll have to drop to make the trade, I'd say go ahead and pull the trigger.
Kevin asks: Looking ahead, I need a QB and a TE for week 9. On my roster is Griese (bye wk9) and Garrard (out for a period of time). There are a few QB's left to pick from, so here they are: Vince Young, Sage Rosenfels, Kellen Clemens, Kerry Collins, Dilfer (not good), Harrington (not good), and Tarvaris Jackson.
At TE: Scheffler, Will Heller, Spaeth, Kyle Brady, David Martin, Zach Miller.
Thanks in advance.
Matt's take: The Titans take on Carolina in week 9, so Vince Young, who was probably going to be your best bet out of that group regardless of the opponent, is easily the best start here. He should have a decent game against a defense that's been equally inept at stopping the pass and the run.

8 teams in our league.
2QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1 W/R, 1TE, 1 K, 1 DEF, 2 DL, 2 DB, 2 D
We get 6pts for a TD(any) .10 points per yard rec/rushing, .25 pts per yard passing/return. .5 points per reception.
BONUSES: +5 points for breaking 100 yards, 150 yards and 200 yards(5 pts each bonus) in rec. or in rushing.
+5 points for breaking 300, 350 and 400 yards passing.
IDPs get 1pt per tackle, 2pts for INTS, Forced Fumbles, etc. I think as much as 4 or 5 for a sack? No points for return yards from an INT.
that might cover it.
Our weekly scores range from 180-300.
