With the first game of week 13 rapidly approaching, here is the first batch of questions. Hopefully our help can clinch a spot in your league’s playoffs…or a first round BYE if that’s an option! Either way, good luck and remember to get in any more of your questions here or leave them as comments on any of our posts and we’ll try to respond as quickly as we can.
Rob asks…
what is the deal with him? has he lost his connection with palmer? i am thinking about leaving him benched regardless of the defense he faces. what do you think of desean jackson’s injury and do you think avant is worth picking up in ppr league?
Brandon’s take: Hey Rob, I love Jason Avant this week, with it looking like DeSean Jackson will be out this week. As for Ochocinco, the Bengals have been running the ball a lot lately, but if they want to get a first round bye in the playoffs, they’re can’t allow another loss like the one to Oakland. I think this week they bring back the passing game and Ochocinco has a solid game. If you have to pick between the two though, I actually like Avant more if Jackson is out. The Eagles throw the ball so much and Avant should get plenty of looks.
Brad asks…
You guys have given me great advice so far. Can you order best to worst, one last time?
I need to win to go to playoffs: D.Clark, S.Holmes, Olsen, Maclin, Boldin
I lose, I’m out: Moreno, D.Driver, Ocho, Meachem, Kevin Smith, Jon StewartTHANKS!
Brandon’s take: Hopefully you make the playoffs: Maclin, Boldin, Clark, Olsen, Holmes.
Seems you really need to win: Moreno, Ochocinco, Driver, Meachem, Smith, Stewart.
Good luck!
David asks…
This post breaks my heart, but I have to ask, is it time to call the big man a bust? I’ve started Brandon Jacobs throughout the season, and he hasn’t let me down every week, but he hasn’t been anything near the force of nature he was in the past. I’m not just a fantasy owner, I’m a big fan. I love the guy, but with games like last week’s against Denver and rough match-ups like Dallas coming up, I may have to keep him reserved for the rest of the season. I’m a lock for the playoffs in my league, and have a week 14 bye because of it, but in looking ahead, I don’t think I can start Jacobs again this season. Am I wrong? My alternative is Pierre Thomas, who I have benched many a game in the hopes that Jacobs will finally get going. What do you think, geeks? Many thanks for the site, always a great read.
Brandon’s take: Hard to say much good about Jacobs, who hasn’t even rushed for 100 yards once this year! Go with Pierre Thomas, who has a better chance to rack up yards with Brees and the passing game stretching the defense. Maybe Jacobs will kick it up a notch during your playoff run, but don’t hold your breath.
E-Roc asks…
Apparently my team decided to take Thanksgiving off, leaving me with a must-win Week 13 to secure a must-have 1st Round Bye in the playoffs:
WR: (pick 2) S.Smith (NYG), S.Smith (CAR), Cotchery, Avant. Or should I pick up Malcolm Floyd, Kevin Walter or Johnny Knox?
TE: Boss (v. DAL) or Winslow (@ CAR)
DEF: Chargers (@ CLE) or Bengals (v. DET)
IMO Bullet points– S.Smith (NYG) is losing value every weekend; blame Eli’s health… Cotchery value declining with Sanchez (Grade: D!)…. I’m ready to drop Mighty Mouse – he doesn’t play ATL anymore this year.
Brandon’s take: Although Steve Smith (NYG) hasn’t been as great recently as he was in the beginning of the year, I think this is a week you want him in there. He’s already lit up the Cowboys once this year and hopefully can do it again. At the other WR spot, I really like Jason Avant this week with DeSean Jackson likely benched. At tight end, go with Kellen Winslow. Finally, for your defense, I’m liking the Chargers against the Browns this week, even with the Bengals playing the Lions. I think the Browns offensive is the most inept unit in the league at this point.
Patrick asks…
Should i start Tom Brady or Matt Schaub in week 13?
Brandon’s take: Even though it is Tom Brady, it’s hard to bench Schaub after he’s already lit up the Jaguars once this year for 300 yards and three touchdowns.

I have Kurt Warner, Matt Leinert and just picked up Alex Smith. Thoughts for this weekend. It looks like I need this win to make playoffs.
Thanks

My vote is actually for Alex Smith…. Call me crazy but the SF-SEA game could turn into a shootout… SEA has the 25th ranked pass defense… The only reason I’m not starting him is because my other QB is McNabb (ATL – 27th)
Squish 1:34 am on 12/06/2009 Permalink
I agree, Smith finally has some chemistry with the WRs and he has a great matchup.

Avant over Driver this week?
e-roc 8:05 am on 12/03/2009 Permalink |
I’m just a Commenter, so this is IMO – Driver is a beast and has great rapport with Rodgers. While the Ravens are excellent at stopping the run and creating QB pressure, I think you have to stick with Driver.
Matt 2:41 pm on 12/03/2009 Permalink
Seconded!

Hey Guys, I need two recievers from; Fitzgerald, Ochocinco, Jennings, Garcon and Avery, and two running backs from Deangelo Williams, Addai, Maroney and Cadillac Williams. What do you think? its a PPR league
Matt 2:41 pm on 12/03/2009 Permalink |
Fitz is a must-start no matter what. Ocho said on Monday: “We would like to throw the ball 50 times.” I believe him. Detroit is dead last against the pass. Get him in there.
DeAngelo Williams had one of his best games against the Bucs and should have another nice one this week. I fear the Titans now so I’d bench Addai in favor of Maroney, who’s been a touchdown machine lately.
e-roc 8:04 am on 12/03/2009 Permalink |
Re: lil Steve Smith – While I think he’s a decent start, I don’t think he’ll produce more than 6 catches & 60 yards this time around. This is a very different Giants team from Week 2… The Defense isn’t going to create 3 & outs / turnovers to give Eli & Co. the opportunities they had in Week 2…
That being said, I snagged Avant, Avery & Meachem in hopes of striking gold for the last quarter of the season…
matt 11:36 am on 12/03/2009 Permalink |
having a real tough time this week as I am one of those guys who is one win away from landing the wildcard spot.. that said I need to flex start one player from Ryan Grant, Kevin Walter, TJ Housh or Chris Jennings..
Matt 2:45 pm on 12/03/2009 Permalink |
I don’t love any of your options but would have to go with Grant even though I don’t expect big things from him against the Ravens.
Kulprit 4:58 pm on 12/03/2009 Permalink |
Need to pick 1:
McCoy (vs ATL)
Moreno (vs KC)
Grant (vs BAL)
I think I currently rank them in that order. My other starter is Ray Rice.
e-roc 9:18 am on 12/04/2009 Permalink |
1 vote for Moreno…
Squish 12:43 am on 12/06/2009 Permalink
2 for Moreno. Too good a matchup to ignore!
Brandon 10:37 am on 12/06/2009 Permalink |
another vote for Moreno here!

Hey guys going head to head for a Wild Card spot in the playoffs this week. Feeling good got a shot but the person I’m playing has an absolutely stacked team. With that said I need a huge outing from my team. Below is my line up for the week. This is a PPR league.
QB Donovan McNabb
Eli Manning
Alex Smith
RB Maurice Jones-Drew
Jason Snelling
Kevin Smith
WR Chris Chambers
Santonio Holmes
Mike Sims-Walker
Michael Crabtree
Jeremy Maclin
TE Zach Miller
Fred Davis
K David Akers
Def/ST Arizona Cardinals
Philadelphia Eagles
QB Donovan McNabb
RB Maurice Jones-Drew
Kevin Smith
WR Santonio Holmes
Mike Sims-Walker
Jeremy Maclin
TE Fred Davis
K David Akers
DE Philadelphia Eagles
Basically I need a big game from Philly @ Atlanta. I was just curious as to who you guys would start and I was thinking of dropping a player like Chambers and picking up Avant and completely going all out on that game. I know it could back fire but what do you think ?
Thanks for all the help and gl to all fighting for that playoff spot !
Helplease 6:51 pm on 12/03/2009 Permalink |
Top is team bottom is my line up *
Helplease 8:37 pm on 12/05/2009 Permalink
Any one ?
Squish 1:41 am on 12/06/2009 Permalink
I’m okay with the lineup other than the WRs. I think Chambers, Maclin and MSW are your best bets. Holmes hasn’t done squat this year. My sources agree that Maclin, not Avant will be the main beneficiary of the DJ injury. MSW is obviously a must play. Chambers and Crabtree to most are on equal ground but for anyone who has watched them play, it’s clear that Chambers is a much bigger part of his offense than Crabtree. I love Chambers this week since he’s hot and is filling in for Bowe as “KC’s only offensive weapon”.
Brandon 10:50 am on 12/06/2009 Permalink |
I agree with Squish here, the only change to make is Chambers instead of Holmes. Otherwise, you look pretty good (although Kevin Smith is never a sure thing!)

Jone 12:36 am on 12/04/2009 Permalink |
Howdy FFG, Would you drop Justin Forsett for Jamaal Charles? Justin Forsett might split carrie with J.J
ken 3:51 am on 12/04/2009 Permalink |
At this point I’d say yea. They’re very similar backs and both have been on fire in the past two weeks. But as you said, one J.J. is back at best Forsett is going to be splitting. Charles is the feature back.
Forsett does have a slightly more favorable schedule, but essentially they both have two great matchups and 3 so-so or bad matchups.
Unfortunately for me I gotta stick with Forsett cuz Charles is already taken in my league. I originally had him on my roster but dropped after going 1 – 5 and needing every available roster spot. Boy am I regretting it now. They couldn’t have canned LJ earlier? lol
e-roc 9:27 am on 12/04/2009 Permalink |
Jone, if you’re looking for a second opinion, I would stick it out with Forsett, depending on what your other options are.
Forsett has proved to be an explosive runner with greater upside than Charles… JJ is also going to have to prove his worth since Forsett has done so well… and who knows, JJ’s injury-prone body might be back on the bench 10 mins after kick-off vs. SF.
Rob 12:36 pm on 12/04/2009 Permalink |
Hey guys, in a jam…Turner is out again for me and so my options are Julius Jones or Chester Taylor. Thoughts?
Brandon 10:47 am on 12/06/2009 Permalink |
Wow, those are your only options? Julius Jones is the better play, with a banged up Justin Forsett ensuring that he’ll get more carries than Chester Taylor.
Kamaps 2:30 pm on 12/04/2009 Permalink |
So I have a problem…too many skilled players. Please help me pick out my starters? I have 2 WR spots, 1 RB spot, and a RB/WR spot. The players I have are:
RB Maurice Jones-Drew, Jac RB
RB Rock Cartwright, Was
WR Miles Austin, Dal
WR Mike Sims-Walker, Jac
WR Jason Avant, Phi
WR Chad Ochocinco, Cin
I have MJD and Cartwright filling up the RB and RB/WR spots, with Austin and Sims-Walker in my WR spots, but all of them are expected big #s and I don’t know who to play. I’m nervous about Cartwright against New Orleans and I’m nervous about Sims-Walker also, but Ochocinco hasn’t been producing, so I’m confused. Please help.
Brandon 10:44 am on 12/06/2009 Permalink |
I like MJD in the RB spot, with Ochocinco, Sims-Walker and Avant in the wide receiver and flex spots. I know Austin was big last week, but the other guys just have better match-ups this week. Good luck!

Two quick questions:
1) Cutler has pissed on my season repeatedly. Should I trust him against StL, or go with Alex Smith vs. SEA?
2) Why do all the “experts” seem hot on Rice but not on Harvin, hot on Avant but not on Maclin? Do they know something I don’t?
Thanks!
Kamaps 4:34 pm on 12/04/2009 Permalink |
Totally go with Alex Smith, SEA is one of the worst pass D’s. Ofcourse, Cutler has that impressive WR core to throw to, such as Devin Hester, D. Hester, Hester, and….oh, Devin Hester.
matt 11:52 am on 12/05/2009 Permalink
what about olsen?? the kid is seeing around 10 targets a game and is a beast of a tight end… hes gonna have a huge game this week
Brandon 10:43 am on 12/06/2009 Permalink |
I’m not sure I consider myself necessarily an “expert”, but we do list Jeremy Maclin as one of our “hits” this week for what it’s worth. I think other guys are just talking about Avant because now he becomes a starter with DeSean Jackson out. Maclin was already starting, so his status doesn’t improve all that much.
On Cutler, he’s been very aggravating and could be worth benching if you’re looking for a safer play with Smith. I like Cutler’s upside this week though and in one of my league’s I’m taking the chance on him with hopes that he can finally put it together.
Adam 4:41 pm on 12/04/2009 Permalink |
I need 3 flex from this list:
Jason Avant
Justin Forsett
Pierre Garcon
Nate Burleson
Tim Hightower
Kevin Smith
I’m thinking the first three (Avant, Garcon, Forsett). What do you guys think?
Thanks!
Brandon 10:38 am on 12/06/2009 Permalink |
Forsett is beat up right now…go with Avant, Garcon and Burleson, all of whom have high upside.
