With the weather absolutely terrible here in the Northeast, I figured it was a good time to answer some of the Ask the Geeks questions that have come in over the past few days. We’ll most likely get one more post up before game time tomorrow, so if you have any last minute questions, make sure to get them in here or leave them as comments on this post!
Also, make sure to leave your feedback on our commenting system here at FFGeekBlog.com so we can figure out if we need to revise the system or not. Anyways, let’s get to the questions…
Wolf asks…
Who would you put your money on…
Brent Celek @SD
Shockey @StL
Carlson @Ari
Shiancoe @DetThey’ve all been inconsistent.. who hits the mark with a good matchup.
Brandon’s take: Wow, that’s quite a group of tight ends you’ve collected. While they’ve all been inconsistent in terms of fantasy points from week-to-week, Brent Celek and Jeremy Shockey have been pretty consistent in the number of receptions they get each game. It’s just a matter of what they do with those catches. This week I’d go with Shockey for sure though, who is playing a Rams team that gave up big games to Dallas Clark, Shiancoe, Vernon Davis and Carlson already this year.
TJ asks…
Need to pick 2 from Welker, Ochocinco, & Miles Austin…..both Ocho & Austin may have issues this week, which one to drop? Thanks!!!!
Brandon’s take: Wait, wha? You have to drop one of the guys if you don’t play them? Hopefully you just mean bench them, as these are not guys you want to drop. As for who should have the best games this week, I’d go with Welker and Austin. I love Ochocinco this season, but he has a tough match-up against AT Pittsburgh, who did a pretty good job containing him in week three.
Kurt asks…
Should I start Dallas at Green Bay or Arizona at home vs. Seattle? Both are decent match-ups and I really can’t decide.
Brandon’s take: While Dallas is assured to get a few sacks against the Packers, they’re also likely to let up a bunch of points. Go with the Cardinals against a beat up Matt Hasselbeck and the non-existent Seahawks running game.
Jake asks…
2 WR, 2RB and one flex. I already chose my 2 starting WR so the question is, which 2 RBs to start and should I start Roy Williams as my flex or any other RB?
This is who I have:
RB:
J. Jones
C. Buckhalter
L. Maroney
R. Bush
Beanie WellsWR:
Roy Williams
Andre Johnson (bye)
Brandon’s take: This week I like Reggie Bush (who has a great match-up with the Rams) and Laurence Maroney, who may not rack up tons of yards against the Colts, but he has a good chance to find the endzone (which he has done in three weeks straight now.) Keep Roy Williams in there at the flex position and hope he has at least as good a game as last week.
Tom asks…
This is my team (12 team league)
QB Tom Brady, Brett Favre
RB Chris Johnson, Ray Rice, Kevin Smith, Justin Fargas
WR DeSean Jackson, Chad Ochocinco, Donald Driver, TJ Houshmandzadeh, Devery Henderson, Malcom Floyd
TE Brandon Pettigrew
K Steven Hauschka
DEF PittsburghWe start 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1W/R, 1K & 1DEF
Possible upgrades
One team has
TE Brett Celek, Jason Witten
WR Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson & Laveranues Coles
RB Marshawn Lynch, Derrick Ward, Shonn Greene, Jamal Lewis, Michael Bush, Ladell Betts and Larry Johnson.
Do you see any options for me to trade for Fitzgerald and/or a TE? (He is obviously weak at RB.)The 2nd team is stacked at RB, weak at WR.
RB Michael Turner, Steven Jackson, Tim Hightower, Marion Barber, Julius Jones & Fred Jackson
WR Braylon Edwards, Michael Turner & Ted Ginn Jr.
If I can trade with him for an upgrade at RB, I may have someone to include in a trade with the 3rd team. The 3rd team (weak at RB) has
TE Dallas Clark, Heath Miller
WR Miles Austin, Brandon Marshall, Jeremy Maclin, Pierre Garcon & Lee Evans
RB Darren McFadden, Beanie Wells, Clinton Portis & Brandon Jacobs (bye)My logic at this point is that since the byes are all but over, who needs 2 TE’s?
My priority order for TE’s would be Clark, Celek, Witten & H Miller. How can I get any of them cheep?
Also, I would love to somehow upgrade at WR and snag Fitz or Austin.Anyone on my team is tradable, however I really don’t want to trade C Johnson or Ray Rice.
What do you think?
Brandon’s take: First of all, I doubt either of the teams with Miles Austin or Larry Fitzgerald are going to give up their start receivers, as both are pretty shallow in depth at the position. Maybe you could bundle DeSean Jackson and Donald Driver for one of them and a good tight end though. You have a lot of depth at WR, which is what those teams seem to lack. Use that as your bargaining point, giving up a couple receivers for an upgrade at both the TE and WR positions. Hopefully this helps! (By the way, you have Michael Turner listed as a wide receiver for the second team, so I’m not sure who you meant to have there.)

Hey, guys! Would you trade your Christopher Johnson OR Ronald Brown for a Matthew Forte/Tony Gonzalez package?
My other tight end is Gregory Olsen and my accessory RBs are Bradshaw, Greene, Charles, Moats, and Bell.
Thank you in advance!

I definitely wouldn’t trade Chris Johnson for Forte + Gonzo in any case, and I don’t really like the Ronnie Brown trade either given Forte’s upcoming schedule – two games against the Vikings, plus the Ravens and Eagles. Pretty tough sledding.
Greg Olsen should be more than adequate at TE – despite Cutler’s struggles (or because of them?), Olsen appears to have finally hit his stride.
Squish 7:26 pm on 11/14/2009 Permalink
Agreed. Stand pat. Olsen should be solid the rest of the year.

Really struggling in deciding my Jacobs replacement RB, HELP PLEASE! It’s a MUST WIN week.
Betts (vs DEN)
C Williams (vs MIA)
Fargas/Bush/McFadden (vs KC)
Buckhalter (vs WAS)
Bell (vs STL)
Sproles (vs PHI)
Squish 11:59 pm on 11/14/2009 Permalink |
I think you have to go with Betts this week. The rest of those backs are all in committees and Betts will be too but with how poor their passing game is, he’ll get plenty of touches. So I’d definitely go with him. He’s questionable right now for his game so keep an eye on that. If it turns out he doesn’t play, go ahead and play Fargas since he’ll still have a large role on the first week of McFaddens’s return and has a good matchup.
You’ll be more successful if you consider every week a must win week
Mal 12:30 am on 11/15/2009 Permalink
thanks Squish, I’ll slot in Betts for now and wake up early just before kick off (as am an Aussie) and if Betts is still looking injured I’ll drop him and pick up Fargas

Would Shonn Greene change this equation at all?
TeamWorseThanARectal 10:52 am on 11/15/2009 Permalink |
Hey, guys! I’m in desperate need of a flex this week: Charles, Avery, Greene, or Bell?
You guys are the best!
Brandon 11:30 am on 11/15/2009 Permalink |
Jamaal Charles is likely to get the most attempts out of that group and has a great match-up against the Raiders. Shonn Greene is my second choice though and is the higher risk/higher reward play.

Guys,
Mendenhall or Steven Jackson? I’m leaning towards Mendenhall because I’m thinking the NO game will be a blow-out early and they will not be using the running game all that much. What do you think?
Brandon 11:33 am on 11/15/2009 Permalink |
I’d still go with Steven Jackson. Mendenhall has a tough match-up with the Bengals and Roethlisberger will most likely take matters into his hands for a majority of the game. You know the Rams are going to get the ball to their only offensive weapon a ton of times (at least early in the game.)
Davie 11:50 am on 11/15/2009 Permalink |
Hi Guys-
PPR league. Looking to play my best RB2. I have:
Maroney, Betts, LT, D. Brown.
I’m leaning toward Maroney…
Thoughts?
Brandon 1:12 pm on 11/15/2009 Permalink |
I agree. Go with Maroney

Looking at a trade, Robert Meachem for Holmes, and Reggie Bush for Kevin Smith? would you consider either one? thanks
Brandon 11:59 am on 11/17/2009 Permalink |
I like Holmes and Bush, so feel free to trade away Meachem, but keep Reggie.
