A few quick free agent pickups, and a couple to ignore

This'll be a short post, but I just wanted to point out a few guys who, if your league doesn't convert all free agents to waivers at 1pm on Sundays, you should pick up right now, and who you don't need to waste your time on. We'll be discussing these guys in more detail later in the week in the waiver-wire post.

Holy TOUCHDOWNS, Batman!

So I returned home from my trip to St. Maarten (which was awesome) this afternoon and turned on the TV halfway through the 4:00 games, something I recommended not doing, and as usual, I was stunned by some of the insanity taking place on the field, primarily by a few running backs. The first stat I saw that made me double-take was Adrian Peterson's 233 yard rushing and 3 touchdown performance. My first thought was "Holy smokes! Peterson is the new LT." But then, I immediately look to the box score of than San Diego game and realized that he's not quite LT, as there's only room in the league for one 215 yard, 4 touchdown performance.

Rudi Johnson: Will get some carries this week

Johnson will get a share of the work this week, but it's unclear whether that means just a few carries or a 50-50 split. Unfortunately for Kenny Watson owners, this means neither of them is a solid start.

Ask the Geeks: Week 6, Part 2

Brandon's off to St Maarten to visit a college buddy of ours (I wasn't invited, but that's cool, really, no hard feelings at all, I mean I'm married and they know I probably wouldn't go anyway, so you know, it's not like I even really wanted to be asked, nah it's totally cool), so I'm flying solo on this edition of ATG. Luckily for my lazy ass, we got most of this week's questions out of the way in Part 1, so I've just got one to respond to now.

Fantasy Football Studs and Duds: Week 6

I will be leaving to head to St. Maarten this weekend, so Matt will have to hold down the blogging for a few days. However, before I leave, I figured I'd post a few quick thoughts on players that on paper look like they should have solid games this week, as well as players that look like they should struggle. You may wish to start or sit players on your team accordingly, if possible.

Five Potential Shockers for Week 6

I wrote my first "shockers" post last week, when I predicted big games for Anthony Gonzalez, Devery Henderson, Gus Frerotte, Demetrius Williams, and Lee Evans. Evans and Williams were busts, but the first three all did surprisingly (shockingly, you might say) well, as I've already humbly pointed out. None of them, though, met my description of a true fantasy "shocker" performance, which I said happens when a "player comes out of relatively nowhere, has a gigantic, multiple-touchdown game, becomes the league’s hottest waiver or trade commodity, and then generally sinks back to his normal level of production the following week."

Cut Your Losses: Players to Drop, Week 6

LenDale White, RB, TEN: In bigger leagues, both White and Chris Brown are worth holding on to, but in smaller leagues, White's quickly becoming expendable. He's averaging 3.4 yards per carry (compared to Brown's 5.3), he lost a fumble in the last game, and, worst of all for White, Brown got the call on a goal-line play - and scored. If, as it now appears, White isn't the sole goal-line option, he's got very little upside.

Testaverde ALERT!

That's right folks. The nearly 44 year old Vinny Testaverde is back in the NFL, this time signing with the Carolina Panthers. With original starter Jake Delhomme out for the season to get elbow surgery, and current starter David Carr with back problems, Testaverde could be under center this weekend when the Panthers go to Arizona to play the Cardinals.

Out with the new, in with the old

Today the Arizona Cardinals announced that they will place starting QB Matt Leinart on the Injured Reserve list, after suffering a broken collarbone this past weekend. This means that you should immediately jump on the chance to pick up Kurt Warner in your fantasy leagues. In limited playing time, Warner has produced well, throwing for at least one touch down in each game he's played in, as well as rushing for a touchdown. Once he gets the second half of his star receiving duo back (Boldin could return this weekend), expect pretty solid numbers from the 36 year old veteran.

Ask the Geeks: Week 6, Part 1

Alison asks: Hey guys, you helped me out with a WR pick-up a couple weeks ago, and now I've got a better than mediocre WR bench, I desperately need help at RB. Sadly, this is not to be, as there's nothing on the wire. So, my question is this: My current roster is LT, S. Morris, F Taylor and Morency. (I was hoping Morency might end up with the bulk of carries, but Wynn is doing decently. Taylor was added as a bye week back if needed when I didn't know what Morency was doing.) Chris Brown, Najeh Davenport, L Washington and J Norwood are all available. Are any of these guys a better choice than the guys I've got? I know, it's not a great situation.
